Hmm - my daughter took it for her seizure disorder.... medicines are used for more than just one type of medical condition these days.... it helped her in that it calmed the brain activity from being to sporadic.
Klonpin may be prescribed as a mood stabilizer in the treatment of bipolar disorder.

Hi, I have taken Klonopin or the generic form in the past and am currently taking a 'cousin' form of Klonopin. I have been back and forth between my current Valium or the generic diazapham for many years.

Klonopin is a benzodiazopham sp? and is similar to Xanax or Ativan in as far as the anti-anxiety type medication, as well as other uses as above for seizures.

Klonopin and Valium are somewhat different than that of Xanax and Ativan as they have a long half life or they build up in your system slowly and stay in your system for days, the pharmacist told me that unlike Xanax which is fast acting for anxiety, while fast acting, it also leaves your system very fast in comparison to that of Klonopin and Valium. They take or stay in your system after taking them and it can take several days to get the full benifit of the medication before reaching a level in your system.

I have found Klonopin to be a good medication for panic attacks and anxiety. I hope it does do a good job helping with the panic attacks and hope that you benifit well from taking it and wish you the best of luck.

Take care, Kris

I also take the other form Clonazepam. The medication seems to be pretty effective in calming my nerves and anxiety outbursts. It does however cause me to become a little sedate, but I would take that over feeling tons of anxiety anyday. My only fear has been the mention of this medication being used for only short term treatment. My doc told me that it can start to wear thin on its effects as time goes on and they would have to ramp up the dosage to compensate. AND there is a limit at which its usually brought up to, after that you kind of left in the dark.

But as it is providing some relief for me at the moment im not complaining. Anything is better then nothing.

I hope it works well for you!

I have been taking Klonopin 3-4 times a week for OCD anxiety since 2003. When I am feeling anxious I usually take 1-2 mg. It works well and provides quick relief. I have yet to have to increase my dosage due to habituation but at the same time I can get "withdrawal" edginess if I go too long without it.
I think if one's anxiety was acute, I would start off taking Klonopin each day to prevent anxiety which I did for the first year I was on it. The main reason I don't take it every day is that it interacts with my other meds and I get very sleepy.

This drug was the only one that helped my panic attacks. Ativan made me wayyyy to messed up.

Its been a life saver for me. I usually get the .5's and take them one at a time up to 2 mg, spaced about 15 20 min apart if im anxious.

Seemed to help me sleep better and longer than the xanax. Please keep me updated as I will check back with you, I dont like taking new meds myself, to many side effects to add to my axiety!!

Does anyone know the web address to the drug review site for the "patients"? It has tons of information and reviews by users and I forgot the address. Anyways Klonopin over all had a very positive outcome for people.

I took it before, but it always zonked me too much. Even taking the lowest dose cut in half. Anyone else I know that has taken it has had really good results without all the nasty side effects. Hope it works for you. klonopin

Klonopin can be prescribed for a number of reasons. It can be prescribed for anxiety, or for epilepsy. I take it for anxiety related to my OCD. The first couple of weeks when I took it, I was tired and fell asleep for a couple of hours nearly everytime I took it. It no longer makes me go to sleep, but when I take it, I can definately tell that I am clamer than when I do not. As for withdrawl, I have never experienced any withdrawl symptoms when I didn't take it, but everyone is different. i hope this helps.

Klonopin gave me my life back. I had been on several other meds that did no good. Luckily I found a psychiatrist who treats only people with panic disorder , and he put me on Klonopin...........in 1990. I am still on it, will be forever, and that does not bother me one bit. One thing I have learned from my own experience, and having worked with clients with PAD for 13 years, it has a long half life, it stays active in your system longer than other benzo's, and really needs to be taken regularly to build up in your system for the maximum benefit. I take a low doseage, and obviously it works - and I have never taken one pill extra in a day than prescribed.

When I first went on it, I slept all day. I would wait several days before upping it, would sleep all day, and get leveled out, then up it again. Once I got used to it, and it was at a constant level in my system, it does not make me sleepy at all - which I could use due to severe insomnia !

Good luck with this med, I hope it works as well for you as it does for me.

There IS life after PANIC.

Hi,

I take the generic Klonopin (clonazepam. It has worked well for me. I split the .5 tablet and take half in the am and half before bed. With the focalinXr which I recently began for my newly diagnosed attention deficit disorder, my pdoc suggests I begin tapering the clonazepam very slowly--I have yet to start this because I have heard horror stories about stopping clonazepam. I do not regret taking it however as it worked for me. I hope withdrawing will not be bad. But I repeat if I had to do it all over again, I would still take the clonazepam.

Good luck with it.

Does anyone know if this medications dosage amount has anything to do with the weight of the patient. I just dont understand why some people are talk "half" a .5mg pill, when I was started off on an entire 2mg a day! klonopin

Mark - I take a .5 in the AM, and 1 mg at bedtime. Like I said, after it getting in my system at a level amount, I dont have any sleepiness from it. (and wish I did !)(AND - actually I could take it all at once and it would do the same thing, as the half life is 12-48 hours, so once built up in our system, it could all be taken at once. I just do it this way since thats the way it was started.) I dont think weight is a big issue with this particular medication. Everyone is so different in how all medications affect them , like I need 2 X-strength Tylenols for a headache, hubby takes 1......and he is almost twice my size. I dont ever think about what doseage someone else takes, its what works for ME that counts ! I think Doctors who specialize in prescribing benzo's know to start at the lowest dose possible, and build it up gradually until the patient is symptom free. At least, that is how my P--Doc did it, and many I have worked with.

Meta - yes, going off a benzo can be difficult, however it is doable ! Just be sure that you taper it very slowly, and after your other medication has been established at a therapeutic level.

Thanks Parker for your message. My computer has been down so I haven't been here in awhile. Don't think I don't 't appreciate your concern. I just hate to mess with what seems to be working and find it difficult to trust that how well I have been feeling since I started taking focalin xr won't get messed up If I change anything at all. So I am very gingerly sitting on the edge of the "another med change pool.

Take care, Meta

P.S. I was always amazed in the work I did with developmentally delayed adults who also had mental health issues to see such wide variation in the meds and the dosing. I guess this is why we have to go thru such trial and error to find what works for us. At this point I am glad I got up the courage in the summer to try and be better than just hangin on with my antidepressant and antianxiety meds. I hope it continues to work. Several antidepressants worked and then quit on me

I took klonopin many yrs. ago to help me sleep. I'm not sure why I went off it, except maybe I went through a manic stage & thought, "I don't need any of this stuff. I feel great!" I've been through cycles of taking meds & going off, but have been on medication now for about 5 yrs. steadily.--Suzy
