I want to know what pp's experiences are with this/these... a practitioner talked a bit about me switching to these from citalopram and buspirone - which aren't working anyway.
In theory it will help with depression as well as fatigue/ fibro fog.

thanks

I had a bad experience with Wellbutrin. I couldn't cool off properly, couldn't sleep and was always moving around so much that couldn't concentrate on anything. However, it didn't do anything to my sex drive (though that doesn't really matter...). I was on the generic though. One of the generics is very inferior.

Keep in mind that Wellbutrin raises the level of dopamine, not just serotonin, and raises the risk of seizure.

Buproprion is also used to help people quit smoking.
Thanks for this!

I am on Buproprion, a generic Wellbutrin. I have depression, seasonal affective disorder and anxiety. I am on it year round but have to adjust my dose. If I am feeling good and take too much it makes me agitated. At the 450mg dose I may have had seizures (petite mal) but have been fine at 150mg and 300mg. It does seem to help with my anxiety too. I know when I lower the Wellbutrin I have to increase the anxiety med a bit to compensate. Thankfully I have a Pdoc who will take the time to both educate me and work these things out. Other Pdocs stopped using Wellbutrin with me when I got agitated rather than adjusting the dose.... In the right balance it has worked wonders for me. Currently I have it paired with Klonodine but usually I use Valium. In the winter I have to add something else in to help boost it. Last year was zyprexa... this year we are trying some new med but will go back to zyprexa if we have to.
It's a "Like" for me.

Kiya, I have been on wellbutrin (on the generic form) for many years. I think it really does help with my depression and I have zero side effects. I take 300 per day.

I've been taking Wellbutrin XL 300mg for about 3 months now. My Dr. prescribed because she felt I needed an AD and Wellbutrin is supposed to be "activating".

I don't feel activated at all by it. I often go back to sleep after my morning coffee.

No side effects that I've noticed, hopefully it works better for you.
Thanks for this!

Hm! This is all very interesting info - thank you for the responses. It is concerning about the siezures... tho I am on lamictal which is an anti-siezure med in addition to helping stabilize mood. I would likely end up on a generic, being on Medicare.
I have some thinking to do... thanks very much!

I have taken Wellbutrin SR for a couple of years for ADHD. I have done very well on it. I started on 75, then went to 150, then went to 300 mg. I had some jitters at each increase but they went away after a few days as my body got used to it. It didn't help enough with the ADHD so now I take Vyvanse also and only 150 mg Wellbutrin. This combination works well for me.

Wellbutrin is activating, so some people with Anxiety have found that it makes them more anxious and they can't tolerate it. I don't have anxiety and it has been fine for me.

The seizure risk is at higher doses, like 450 mg. My understanding is that the standard dose for depression, 300 mg, does not have an increased risk for seizures, unless you already have a seizure disorder.

Just one of the generics was associated with ineffectiveness. My PNP knows which one it is and she had it written into my prescription that any generic (bupropion) was OK to give me, except for the version made by this one company. So I have gotten it from several different companies and they have all been fine.

My only side effect was a tremor in my hands at 300 mg. It was tolerable and my PNP didn't seem concerned. When I went back down to 150 mg, the tremor went away.

MY GP had me on welbutrin before for anxiety depression before I was dx with BPD and it did very well, too well in fact. Looking back since educated on BP I realized that the good feelings I was having was actually mania. I've heard though for BP it works well if assisted with other meds.

I've been on Wellbutrin/Bupropion for many years, I'm currently on 300mg, and it has helped me a LOT. I don't really have any side effects from it. I'm very happy with it.

See that's what happened with Citalopram. I was on lexapro for both depression and anxiety - then ran out of money. so they put me on Cit. which, though it lifted the "zombie feeling", it hiked anxiety 115% even though it is a "cousin" to lexapro and is supposed to also work on both. I do get manic every now and again... Mind, my Dr may never get back to me either, so I may be stuck with what I've got. :/
Thank you again for all the responses!

I have been taking a form of Wellbutrin for decades. I found with XL that I have fewer of the reported side effects than I did with the others, and no trouble with sleep or with seizures at the higher dosages. What's nice with Wellbutrin as opposed to some of the others is that if you do experience them, you can back it off and it does go away quickly as the half life is shorter than some of the others, returning to a better state. It also gives me (and pdoc) more control with the fluctuations in mood to easily adjust the med that did not experience with some of the other meds out there.

Everyone's chemistry is so different though. There will always be positive and negative reactions to any meds depending on the person. Unfortunately you never know until tried. I wish you luck in finding the one that works best for you. It's out there.
