My husband was just prescribed paxil and we were wondering what to expect and watch out for with this med. Timing of dosages important? Problems with weight gain? etc. Thanks!

I started taking Paxil about four years ago. It's important to remember that everyone handles medication differently & he may or may not have the same experience I did. When I first started taking I was on 20 mg. I woke up in the middle of the night throwing up, & I don't mean I woke up & then threw up, I mean I woke up while throwing up. I had no appetite at first & it made me feel slightly twitchy. But all of this lasted barely a week. Since then it has been great for me (until recently), it does make me really hungry & thristy but I have not put on any weight. I've read that Paxil does have a tendency to "poop" out though, as mine seems to be doing. Well, best of luck!

I was on it for 8 years. I gained weight, a lot. It is important to try to take it at the same time every day. Mine quit working for me, but I had a hard time convincing the doc of that. It took me over a year to come off of it and it was a nightmare! I know everyone reacts differently to drugs, however if I knew then what I know now you couldn't have paid me to start taking that med. Just my opinion.

The timing is VERY important......the one side effect I experienced while on Paxil was dizziness if I forgot a dose or took one late.
