I have been having a lot of trouble sleeping. I have been on ambien cr for probably 4 years, and various other meds for sleep with it.
My pdoc wanted me to try klonopin, but it wasn't covered by insurance.
Then, he wanted me to valium, again, not covered by insurance.

Now, He is out of the office for at least another week. I am totally exhausted and I don't know what to do now.

Can you take the ambien cr until your pdoc returns? Or is it not working anymore? I've heard that some people who are on ambien for a while can get rebound insomnia when they stop taking it, so maybe that is going on with you (if you have stopped the ambien). I think you have to wait a while for that to wear off. I found that one of the worst things when trying to fall asleep and not being able to is to lie in bed unsuccessfully. It always worked better for me to just get up for a while rather than toss and turn. So I get up and do something, then try to sleep again in a couple of hours. If it is already close to morning, then I just have to get up and be tired for the day. I think eventually the body learns it has to sleep during the specified time or else get no sleep. That is the theory, anyway. I struggle with sleep... Hope your pdoc has some good ideas. Until then, exercise, fresh air, keep the bedroom cool... Hang in there.

I am still on the ambien cr because I literally get no sleep at all when I go off of it.
I usually try to get some exercise in, but haven't much for the last couple of weeks because i was in a car accident. Starting physical therapy on thursday.
Benadryl makes me hyper instead of sleepy. My daughter is the same way.

I'm just getting frustrated and crabby. I have tried more meds than I can count for sleep & depression. I feel like I'm never going to get sleep, and I know when I don't my mood sucks.

I had been sleeping ok for a week and a half, but I was on vicodin for pain, which I had to stop because I got hives.

As for the melatonin...I remember reading something negative re: it...might want to research on the internet

NicoleB2, you said you are still on the ambien CR--is it working for you or not? If it is working, why does your pdoc want you to take a benzo instead? Usually pdocs prefer a patient with insomnia take a non-benzo hypnotic (like ambien) rather than a benzo such as klonopin or valium for insomnia. Do you think you are sleeping poorly because you are in pain from your accident? If so, is there anything else you can take besides vicodin? I hope the physical therapy helps with your pain. And I hope your pdoc returns soon so you can get some help with all that's going on. Hang in there and may the days pass swiftly.

Pdoc wants me to take the ambien cr and a benzo. The ambien cr helps me get at least a couple hours of sleep.

Pain from the car accident is still there, but the insomnia has been around long before that. I am no longer taking vicodin - developed an allergy to it
