So I finally asked my pdoc why I have gone through a whole bunch of psych meds and nothing has seemed to work for me for more then 3-4 months at a time once we get to a suitable dosage of medicine. Her answer was that me liver metabolized the medication faster then most people. She said the dosages she has me on are for a typical 6'3" 230 lbs male instead of the 5'4" 165 lbs female that I am. I mean when I took Seroquel I was on 800 mg with it just barley helping me and most people have effective dosages around 200-300 mg. I was wondering if anyone else has the same problem as me, going through meds super fast?

Do you have a history of drug or alcohol abuse? That can affect how quickly your liver processes some medications. Other than that I'm not sure. Are your liver enzymes normal?

I don't know if it relates to my liver but my pdoc has told me that there is something about me that only begins to respond when we've reached the upper limit of drugs. I know I was on 800mg Seroquel too and it hardly helped me sleep. Same with Trazadone. I responded to the anti-depressant part of it at over the legally perscribed dose whereas other people have told me they took like 5mg and it knocked them out and my 700mg dose hardly made me tired.

Trazodone and Seroquel are metabolized by the same enzyme in the liver. Have you ever taken, or are you now taking St. John's wort?
It is a powerful inducer of that enzyme.

I have never even drank alcohol or taken any kind of drugs besides prescription drugs that have been prescribed to me by a doctor. I have never taken St. John's wort either.

My doc. says my liver works TOO good. So he checks my blood now and then to see if the med. is at the right level in my blood. I take clonidine and clozaril. Good luck!
