PROGRESS: gradual change in overall mood and disposition (for the better).

FYI - While most people taking Effexor become aware of some lessening of depression within two to four weeks, there are some who experience relief within the first week and others who only experience relief after a couple of months of therapy.

Average time varies.... each person is different.... any where from 2 weeks to 3-4 months.

Good Luck -

Don't forget that while your husband will feel better, it won't be constant...he'll still have down days, especially when something "triggery" happens, whatever that is for him. Wish you both the best, it's such a blessing when one begins to feel better again.

It it definitly a gradual thing. I would its safe to assume that results can be seen in anywhere from 2-6 weeks. I noticed a small change in the first few days but not the full results until several weeks. I also had to gradually increase my dose over a period of about 3 months, maybe more. I am sensative to meds.

I agree with DJ, there are up days and down days. So if it seems that he is teetering, I beleive this is normal. Even with an increase there are adjustment periods to this med. It has worked well for me. I hope your husband has the same results.

I didn't notice any change for the better at all. I was only on mine for just over a month, and it was only a couple of days before i took the overdose that my doseage was upped...

It is suspected that it was the effexor which drove me to attempt suicide.

But, it is agreed, that results are different for everyone.

Good Thread.
I just began on Effexor 2 1/2 weeks ago. I am only up to 75mg at this time but have been told it will increase most like to 225 but it is a gradual upping of it. Most likely will be at 75 for another week or so then build up.
I have seen my head be able to have less crazy thoughts swirling around and I can focus more.
But, as DJ said...we can have bad days and be on the best meds in the world and it just won't matter.
