Does anyone know of a med. that is good in helping symptoms of severe dysphoria associated with anxiety, self injury, and paranoid tendencies. I'd be looking for something on a temporary basis that could just be used in flare-ups. I cannot take any anti-depressants due to causing hypermania.

Good question. At the same time, this is a question you should really take up with your pdoc. or a new one if you seem to feel you are not getting anywhere with the present one.
There are so many meds and/or combos that can be used, so that is why it is best to take this question up with your pdoc.
Meanwhile, there is nothing wrong with hanging out here, and asking or just exchangeing info with others. Dysphoria/Anxiety/SIB's
I wish you lots of luck and patience with this.
Please take care,

You might want to consider one of the new atypicals. I know people who use Risperdal (risperidone) or Seroquel (quetiapine) p.r.n. (Latin for "as needed'), for just those symptoms. One other, but I don't remember which.

The only real issue for p.r.n. use is that side effects can be a large issue. Your body has no chance to adjust to the med, so you have to experiment a bit to find a drug that is tolerable enough, in your body.

Thanks Larry! That's the kind of information I need. I'm just gathering input before talking to the psychdoc. She actually likes to hear what cyber patients think of the meds and welcomes my input. She always makes a good final decision, though.

I was going to suggest Risperdal myself, as I was initially prescribed it for self-injury and anxiety, but I take it daily. However, my pdoc has me take an extra .5 mg when I'm really "edgy," as he likes to call it, and that's enough to calm me down. Never having taken it solely on an as-needed basis, though, I don't know if that might work for you.
