My diagnosis is bipolar disorder. Recently started with a new pdoc. I had been in a manic state for many weeks. Had been on a high dose antidepressant and no mood stabilizer. New doc cut the dose in half and started me on Saphris for mood stability. Depressive state came crashing in soon after that. After four weeks, felt great (almost too great) but that only lasted about a week and a half. Can't seem to find the middle. Does anyone out there know if this medicine just takes a long time to work or what? Maybe I need the dosage adjusted?

Check with your pdoc and/ or pharmacist to review your meds and as you said maybe adjust the dosages. Take care.
Thanks for this!

Atypical antipsychotics as mood stabilizers are completely hit or miss.

Seroquel XR is a great one, but it often overstabilizes into a state of emotionless dribble.

Well, I've been put on Saphris for Major Depression with Psychotic Features (as in hallucinations and some irritability/agitation).
I was told that it's in the class of "atypical anti-psychotic" and was indeed used for mood stabilization as well. I know that it DID take a while for me to see some affect for the hallucinations (actually, a few months) when I started Saphris. But eventually, the hallucinations really diminished (I'm still working on the mood stabilizing; my pdoc had me on wellbutrin for, like, two years and it was completely useless. I'm actually on my 2nd day of Lamictal today).
I don't really know your whole story; but I would check with your doctor and give it some time. I DO find it helpful (which is good for me.... but it kinda sucks cuz the Saphris sublingual tastes like chewing aspirin XP ).
I take mine at bedtime (10 mg) because it kind of makes me groggy (not TIRED, per say; just fairly groggy and not feeling "sharp", you know?). If you take yours in the morning, I would ask to switch it to nighttime to see if that helps (who knows, it might make a world of difference). Other than that, I don't know what to tell ya. Hope this helped
