So I've been on nefazadone for almost 2 months probably going on 3. I just don't know if it's working. I thought that on the lower dose 100mg per day that I was seeing some improvement so the pdoc upped the dose to 150mg 2x a day. Ever since we upped the dose I've felt like it stopped working altogether. I felt more low than I have since I started to go to the pdoc and seeing a therapist in early December. I have been having more suicidal thoughts than usual and even had a small brush with broken glass ( I broke a glass and immediately thought I could cut myself with it) and a split second when I was taking a bath where I thought about just staying emerged under the water and not coming up as I was rinsing my face of soap. This is the first time that I had ever come close to doing anything.
I don't know what to say to either of my doctors. I'm mostly afraid that they will be angry with me. I try and listen to comedy and try and push those feelings of lowness and the suicide ideation away but it doesn't see to work. I don't know what to do right now. I am having to take xanax for anxiety more often then I'd like and my next pdoc appointment isn't until the 31st. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. |

Hi I was on Serzone (Nefazodone) several years ago and it did help with my depression though everyone is different and I was never on Nefazodone alone as my only antidepressant. I also took Prozac along with the Nefazodone and so it may be different taking it without an SSRI antidepressant also. I would discuss how you are feeling and your symptoms with your pdoc when you go to see him/her on the 31st to see if maybe you could take an SSRI or anSNRI along with the nefazodone to help with your depression. Also, make sure that your doctor who prescribes the nafazodone does lab or blood work to check your liver while taking this medication, I had to stop taking this medication because for some it can be harmful to your liver. I hope you begin to feel better soon and that your feelings of wanting to harm yourself lessen and your suicidal ideations are reduced or go away soon.

Thanks krzyk. I am hoping that things get a little bit better before my next appointment with the pdoc. It's just becoming so much of a chore to get up in the morning and to work and really to do anything. Part of me wonders if I should call him early and let him know so that he can make the call to come in earlier or not. I dunno......

Serzone (brand name Nefazodone) was taken off the U.S. market in 2004 (but generic Nefazodone is still available) due to liver toxicity which would necessitate a liver transplant or lead to sudden death. Prior to Serzone's discontinuation I was on it for 5 years and found it worked well for my depression.
Please use Nefazodone with caution. ![]() |
