I just started taking Celexa today..... for depression, mood swings, OCD, Panic attacks and BDD.... and I was just wondering if any one else has been taking this medicine and how well did it work for you, and what was the length of time it took to see (feel) any results?

Thanks.......
and YES I know that every medicine works differently for all people, but I was just wondering and wanting a general basis answer to how it worked.

I'm glad you asked. I took Celexa for a few years.
I really feel Celexa is a great medication for your situation.
It worked very well for me, with no side effects like Effexor, and Paxil.
It will take about 30 days for full affects, but you'll start noticing some changes in a few days. Be patient it will be completely worth it.
Once your body is dependant on Celexa, whatever you do don't take yourself off. You'll get very very sick.....physically and emotionally.
I wasn't really diagnosed anything, I was just a wild out of control teenager. It helped calm me down. I was able to think straight....one thing at a time. I became more organized and accepting of my life issues.
Keep taking them.....give them a good try, they may be the best thing that ever happened to you.
Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply Desirae…. and it is good to hear that some one else has had some good results with this medicine. I have just taken my first pill this morning around 9 am and I can already feel a calming effect in the mind, my thoughts are not running a muck on me like they normally do, day in and day out (and nights).

The only side effect I am experiencing right now is a slight headache and some diarrhea, hoping they will pass in a week or two after my body becomes adjusted to the medicine.

I had good results on it and was able to wean off of it easily. The only side effect I ever had was a bit of an upset stomach for about three days and then it went away. I remember feeling a positive change after a few days where I wasn't as anxious and my brain could shut down when I went to bed. I didn't have any weight changes with it either.

I went to a psychiatrist when I felt I needed an increase in dosage. He doesn't like to use it because he doesn't think it does anything, which is why it has such a low side-effect profile. I'm on Lexapro now (cleaner version of Celexa) and I notice the same improvements. I'd prefer to just be on a higher dose of Celexa, since I was only on 20 mg to start with, because it's gone generic and is really affordable if you don't have insurance.

Good luck with it.

Day 5 and all is going well..... Heck darn right GREAT!!!!

I am finally able to get to the point where the new medicine is kicking in and has greatly calmed down my run of the muck mind (negative thoughts) - which has in turn given me a break from the once great despair of DEATH that use to always be connected with my inner pain (wounds).

While I still have anxiety from with in ME - they are minute compared to the LIFE I have enjoyed this weekend with my family.

w00t!! w00t!!

I'm glad Celexa seems to be working for you! I had a terrible time on it. I felt no emotion whatsoever, couldn't laugh, couldn't cry, I hated it. I finally watched a sad movie just to feel some emotion. I had the stomach issues something terrible, but I was drinking heavily at the time as well. I had to get off of it after about a month. Hope it continues working for you!!

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo -

All had been going good for me & my mind the first five days on Celexa and then today - WHAM!! BAM!! - - - - I had an emotional upset that really sent me over the edge.... my mind, thoughts, and feelings are all over the place now and I am left with that old despair.... I hate feeling as though life has no meaning or worth to it.

COME ON MEDICINE..... kick in and do your stuff.

I have another question for any one that has taken Celexa.... what was the highest dose that you took while on this medicine? I am presently taking 20 mg per day, but I wonder if 40 mg might not be better.... for when I am really stressed or have a high level of anxiety I take an extra pill and all goes way.

What do you think.... ?

I'm not sure what the highest dose is, but I know it must be more than 60 mg.

I was on 60 mg for a while.

My handy dandy doctor's drug book says 60 mg is the highest daily dose.

I'm really liking Lexapro. Maybe your doc could switch you over to that. The only reason I want to go back to Celexa is for cost issues once the freebies stop coming.

Yes, 60 mg is the highest dose that any one can take of Celexa - I was just wondering what the average dose was of the people on here that took it or is taking it?
ANY ONE?

After 6 months on Celexa...

Phooie..... while the medication is working great to stop those intrusive thoughts and weekly suicidal tendencies I am now having a hard time with sexual pleasure, not being able to reach the big "O"..... I can still create the want to and feel the desire, but like others on here have stated the flag pole only gets raised to half mask no matter how hard I or hubby tries.

...Any suggestion? - or must I now trade out my sexual pleasure for my life (having it)?

Hmm, don't know how to advise with the sexual part of it all, without suggesting more meds. My duaghter had a horrible time on this med. I am glad it's working so well for you.

I found with my new found calmness that the sex got better. It could be that Celexa has nothing to do with the "O" and you could just be physically drained or fighting a little virus.

That I wish it was...... but it is the medication and the body not working well together for my sexual pleasure, for this has been going on for a good two or three months, and well, I personally took matters into my own hands - lol - (scientific experiment) and still no "O".... not even a level three.

Oh well.... life goes on.

i have been put on 40 before and yea it helps but then im bad with meds and decided that was too much and i didnt want an increase ... promptly crashed ... did the same with prozac ...

now im mean to be on 20mg and i havent really taken it much of late. yea i suck.

my advice would be to ask the doctor about 30mg to start with. it doesn't need to be 40.

good luck.

I've been reading all the postings on Celexa as i have been on it now 4 days and it has been almost that many since I have now eaten anything. I'm hoping that the stomach side effects will go away quickly. I feel more numb than anything as a result of taking this. Not that I was an overwhelming joy to be around before but now I don't leave the house and just feel yucky. The Doctor told me this was least likely to bother my cancer treatments but might help my *severe depression* he feels (and probably rightly so) that I have fallen into.

Pretty sure 30mg is > than 20mg?

Just often they will go up in 10mg increments not necessarily 20 at a time Celexa Question -

Good luck Celexa Question -
