I read about this on another board. The FDA made an announcement regarding Topamax recommending periodic blood tests to check for something called metabolic acidosis. I have little clue what that is, but if you are on this med, you may want to talk to your doc about it. My totally un-education understanding is that most healthy people have nothing to worry about, but it's a good idea to get the blood test just to be sure. It has something to do with level of body acids, which s/b adjusted by respiration...meaning you may just breath a little deeper and should have no problem at all.

Here is the info to share with you doc in case he/she hasn't heard about it:

This one is pdf from the FDA:

Metabolic acidosis is a serious condition that can be very damaging to a lot of body systems. Blood is kept neutral at a pH of around 7, which among other things allows the complex chemical reactions our body depends on to occur unimpeded. If your blood becomes too acidic, lets just say that big problems happen. Respiration does help by introducing carbon into the blood stream, however you have to be careful. If you breathe too fast (hyperventilate) you blow off too much carbon and can worsen the acidosis.

some of it's magic
some of it's tragic
but i had a good life all the way......
