Anyone here been on lunesta?
I asked my general doc for sleeping aid as my anxiety is keeping me awake for most of the night. He gave me lunesta 2 mg. It's not making me as sleepy as I'd like. And the following day I'm a sleepwalker.
Do I need to adjust the dosage? Is there another sleeping pill with less side effects?

I take Lunesta. I like it for the most part. I do find myself groggy the next day but it could be that I take 2 drugs that make me sleepy.

I took Lunesta as a change to the Ambien I've been taking for years but it left the most awful taste in my mouth that I couldn't taste anything except that for 3 days. It was awful......back to the Ambien which works well for me as anything. I take 20mg a night and sometimes get as much as 5 hours sleep and don't have after effects the next day with it.

I believe with Lunesta there are higher dosage options inlucing a 3mg tablet. Have you tried Ambien/Ambien CR? 10-20mg range works well for tough insomnia. .Sonata is another like Ambien - but doesn't work as well in my opinion.

Rozerem is another sleep med unrelated to benzos and meds like Ambien and Lunesta. It targets specific melatonin receptors. It may be worth a try.

Hope this helps
Jerry

Guess I'm kind of late on the reply, but here's my 2 cents on sleeping pills. I've been an insomniac since childhood and I have tried them ALL.

I didn't like Lunesta because it didn't work very well for me as far as falling asleep. The reason I didn't keep trying it out, though was that it gave me a god awful taste in my mouth. Really horrible.

Someone mentioned the new Rozerem - I tried that and hated it too. It did make me sleepy, but it's the worst of all the sleeping pills I've ever tried in regards to the hangover effect (including even chloral hydrate which is the stuff they slip into drinks in the old movies). I did sleep, but I felt crappy until evening the next day. Just super groggy and truly a hungover feeling.

In the last year I've been switching back and forth between Sonata and Ambien. I really like Sonata the best because it has such a short half-life. It never leaves me feeling sleepy the next day. You only have to be able to devote 4 hours to sleep after you take it instead of the 7 to 8 your supposed to do with Ambien. That also makes Sonata a nice option if it's 2 in the morning and you have to get up for work, but you need a sleeping pill. The only thing about Sonata is that is sometimes makes me have visual hallucinations if I take it and don't fall asleep for some reason. That doesn't bother me though.

I take Ambien on days when I don't have to get up early or I really feel like a need more than 3 or 4 hours of sleep.

Hope you find one that works for you...Jon

I am not sure if they can do this but I have heard of prescribing AntiPsychotic Seroquel for sleeping, and WOW let me tell you it works like anesthesia! Lunesta
