I read some of the other posts about Lamictal and was wondering about a couple of side effects in particular. My doc wants me to start this (I'm not taking any meds at this time). I took it a couple of years ago, but I don't know what the side effects were because I was taking so many other pills at the time I don't know which effects were from which pills. I specifically do not want daytime sleepiness and lowered sex drive (also I could do without the zombie brain). Anyone have those effects from this drug?

Lamictal is an excellent drug in all these ways, in my opinion. It's side effects are generally pretty benign for most folks. I personally know more than a dozen people who have been helped tremendously by it. I highly recommend it.

I've been on Lamictal 4-5 yrs now with no significant side effects. I do have excessive daytime sleepiness (that I take meds to combat) but I don't know if is specifically from the Lamictal of the Abilify. Lamictal is supposed to help with depression (I have bp I) & it seems to be doing its job, despite one winter when I had to add Wellbutrin. I got off the Wellbutrin in the spring. I must have a touch of SAD, too. I now sit under one of those full-spectrum lights in the winter.--Suzy

been on it two weeks. Notice less agrivation, no lowering ofl my sex drive. good luck. Also not any extra weight gain. I took Depakote and was very weighty because it caused it even though I ate almost nothing. It feels good to eat, be more balanced and to have no mania. At end of summer I was bad.

I really like lamictal.
This is the first time that I have been able to get myself up in the mornings to go to the gym and exercise.
I have never been able to do this.
It is really amazing to me.
I sleep about 7 hours at night with ambien cr 12mg.
I don't think that the lamictal is giving me any side effects at all.
In fact ...I am probably more stable than I have been in a decade.

Thanks for the replies everyone. The lamictal is going ok so far. No zombie head or sex drive problems. But did anyone have vision problems with it? I thought I just needed new glasses, but that hasn't helped. Also seem to be getting a lot of mouth ulcers, but that's usually food related for me so maybe just a coincidence.
I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that this is the miracle drug my doc makes it out to be. I always worry about those magic bullets though and the nasty exit wounds. But if this is the worst it gets, it's not so bad I guess.

I haven't had any of those side effects, I'm sure what you are experiencing will go away.
I've had occasional mouth sores but I'm sure it's the nicorettes chewing gum, they can be nasty.
Lots of luck with this.
