Hi all, I am currently on Effexor XR 75 mg and have been taking it for five weeks now. First 3 weeks I was really doing well apart from the first three to four days when I was just a spaced out zombie. then the 4th and 5th week I have just been a mess again. could it have stopped working after just 4 weeks? has this happened to anyone else? my therapist said everybody have ups and downs and it's normal but then what's the point in taking the meds? or do I need to up my dose as she also suggested? Or did it not work in the first place? I just feel as awful again as I did 5 weeks ago when I was not on any meds...

I was on effexor and at first, it was great. Then it stopped working. Pdoc kept increasing hoping it would pass, and then it sent me into a mixed state with rapid cycling. Took me about 6 months to get off it, and I'm still trying to find my normal.

ADs tend to be extremely unpredictable with us bipolars.

Are you on anything else? Lamictal is (was) helping with my bipolar.

You should move up to 150mg the normal dose at 2 weeks , you hit a level that wasnt enough ,so you are in limbo till you go up.

I used to be on Lamictal about 5 years ago but I stopped therapy and meds I'm only now again getting therapy and meds again and my pdoc said I don't need Lamictal this time...confusing!

75 mg is not a therapeutic dose for most people. Most people need between 150 and 225 mg to see an affect. I"m on 375.

Also if I recall correctly it took me about 6 weeks to really notice any positive change in my mood.

Good luck.

Effexor not working after 4 weeks?

37.5mg in Australia and increasing until therapeutic level is reached, but it can take anything up to 8 weeks before any effect is noted.
