I just got it filled today and will be starting it tomorrow. I know it can cause stomach upset and I am fairly sensitive to that...just wondering if anyone else out there is on it or has tried it? It just got approved in the US. Thanks!

It's a new atypical antidepressant! I haven't tried it, since my meds are working good! But, I'm sure I will...please keep us posted on it!

Hi Elsewhere,
I have been on Brintellix for 2.5 weeks. I was instructed to take the med with my largest meal to avoid any nausea. This did the trick for me. I did feel like I was "almost" going to get diarrhea the first couple of days, but did not. Now, I have constipation, so am trying to eat more fiber to get that under control. Other than that, I have had zero side effects. This is the easiest AD I have ever started on, and so far I am really happy with it. My body hates typical SSRIs, and this drug has given me none of those previous issues. Also, if you drink alcohol, limit it to 1 drink per night. I have done this with no problems, and with my pdoc's ok, but the one night zi has 3 drinks I got extremely nauseaus, when previously 3 drinks would not have done that to me. Good luck with this, and keep me posted on how you do with it.

Thanks for this information! My stomach has been sketchy but then it usually is due to anxiety...the weird thing is I have been extremely irritable since starting it, with really racing thoughts (which I never have). I didn't take it today, and I feel much better. I am going to wait a week or so and try again, but I don't expect different results! I am the first person my pdoc has put on this med; he seemed really excited to have me as his guinea pig , as I have had a terrible reaction to the depression meds I have tried. I was hoping I would do better with this, but perhaps not! Sigh.

Elsewhere, I am sorry to hear that. I have anxiety too, but my pdoc said it usually works for depression quicker, and takes a bit longer for anxiety. My pdoc had 9 patients on it when I started, i was number 10, and said so far none had had to stop. I have felt a bit of improvement in my anxiety, and a more significant improvement in my depression, so I'm going to continue to stick it out.
Thanks for this!

I am looking at starting a new medication as the Effexor XR I have been on for over 13 years seems to have stopped working. During those years I have gone through menopause and am now in my sixties.
I am scared to go through the withdrawals coming off of Effexor but need a new med.

Were any of you able to start the Brintellix with your old medication or did you have to come completely off the med before starting?

Mommy Sue, go over to Crazyboards.org and search the forums for Brintellix. There is a similar thread going on, and someone else there is tapering off of Effexor while starting Brintellix. Personally, I had been off all ADs for 4-5 months before starting Brintellix, but I was taking benzos and ambien, which I am now tapering off of.

I also have been n Effexor for over 10 years. As it has since stopped working my doctor has started me on Brintellix. I have been on it for 2 days and am starting to feel the effects of Effexor withdrawal as my doctor had me go straight from one to the other. He said there should be no withdrawal symptoms...yeah right! I know Effexor and the horror of withdrawal too well. I'm terrified that it will get to be too much but am going to try to tough it out because I need so badly for this to work.

On day 7 of Brintellix 10 mg. Starting to feel a little better from Effexor withdrawal but not feeling any real relief from the depression and anxiety. Still not wanting to get out of bed or go anywhere. Hopefully, given more time....it will kick in. I don't believe it was wise for my doc to have me go directly from the Effexor without titrating it down...but, oh well.

Another point of concern is that he has me continue with the Wellbutrin that I was taking as an add on to the Effexor. Recently, I read where Brintellix and Wellbutrin should not be taken together. Now I'm scared...I've been very sick for the past week and now I'm not sure how much of that may be due to the drug interaction, Anybody able to shed some light on this subject?

After taking off Celexa, I started on 10 mg Brintellix about two weeks ago. Right away I started feeling physically ill with horrible headaches and stomach pain. I guess, I should have read your reviews before trying this as I’m feeling very ill again... Must Read Brintellix Review on Consumer Health Digest.

i'd been on cipralex for almost 3 years and then switched to pristiq for a month during christmas/new years but it was making me incredibly irritable so now i'm on day 3 of 10mg of brintellix (trintellix here)
(but i'm still taking it with my 50mg pristiq for 4 more days cause that's how my pdoc told me i change it)

so far i just feel empty and bored and pointless...

Started brintellix 3 days ago and have since had non-stop nausea but no other side effects. Have tried in excess of 20 medications of all categories (ssri, ssni, maoi etc.) as well as ECT & am yet to have any relief so not holding high hopes in brintellix.

Hi,
I've been on Brintellix for 1 year now. It was a hard drug to start. I had nausea and vomiting and severe esophagus pain. I went hypo manic for a couple months in the beginning. Brintellix has been the most effective antidepressant that I have tried for depression . I hope you find the right medications
