Anyone taking Adderall/Methylphenidate/Nuvigil for depression. I find they help greatly for enhancing my mood/energy and concentration. I know though a lot of psychiatrists won't prescribe them though since they can cause agitation.
Thanks for this!

My psychiatrist prescribes Adderall for me. I have ADD, but he originally started me on Ritalin for my lack of energy. We switched to Aderall because Ritalin got me too agitated.

He is a believer in psychostimulants when used properly, (there is an interview with him on psychcentral somewhere. I'll look for it) However, if you have a pre existing heart condition he wants clearance from your cardiologist first.

When I was taking Provigil (cousin to nuvigil), it definitely helped my mood. Had to go off it because it was causing headaches.

For ADD Concerta 54mg works for concentration well. I'm not depressed but If i were to decide on taking the concerta and not, i wouldn't because it dulls out my mood. I don't notice if it has any effects on energy because im usually too anxious anyway concerta or not. Sometimes I think it calms me down but come on delusional talk right there..

I'm on Dexedrine for ADD and it also helps my depression because it focuses my mind and keeps depressive thoughts from sneaking in so much during my daily activities. My doctor has no problem prescribing stimulants as long as the person doesn't have a history of addiction issues or full-blown mania, which I don't.

European countries and the US have very different perspectives on ADD and its treatment.

I was prescribed adderall then concerta for my ADHD in addition to meds for depression and anxiety. Combined they work great. Currently working a job that doesn't allow for the use of narcotics like adderall and concerta so my ADHD is not being treated and my depression has worsened.

But the same can be said form many other prescription meds, like the narcotics- oxycodone, hydracodone, etc. Is it difficult to get meds like these in the UK?

People even use medications for sinus colds (pseudoephedrine) to make crystal meth here. You have to show ID, etc. to buy it.

The chemist will ask why you need cold meds , may seem a silly question but lots are used for other reasons, even IBRUFREN don't ask for 2 boxes they will say why 2. We have a massive heroin problem, so valium is looked at close has often mixed with heroin , we cannot get WELLBUTRIN that is banned for seizure and miss use, so any stimulant is deemed a threat

You cannot get Wellbutrin? Wow, it is commonly prescribed and deemed to be very safe in the US. They warn about the seizure risk but aren't given to those where the risk is present. They are much more restrictive in the UK than they are here then, I didn't realize. There is a heroin problem here as well and the pain med Oxycontin (when bought illegally) is used as a replacement very often. So there are restrictions on the scripts, but no ban. It isn't uncommon for older kids to sell their ADHD meds.

The ban was for something to do with heart problems, has everyone don't know they have a problem they deemed it unsafe, but I have seen zyban sold in pubs in England for miss use its the same thing, but you only get it on script for 3 weeks to stop smoking. Someone else posted it was banned in there county . I would try it if the NHS scripted it

They still prescribe it here under the name zyban as well, to be used to quit smoking. Insurance will only cover a couple of months for zyban. But change the name on the script to Wellbutrin and you can have it indefinitely. I had wondered if it contributed to a slight heart problem I have now that was discovered while I was on it. I had been complaining of shortness of breath and tiredness and they found something. Maybe there is something to that then.
