Hello friends!

I am concerned about my taking Risperdal? (I take 1 mg, 2 X a day)...due to the commercials on tv where it states that teenage boys develop breasts....etc. (I am far from a teen though...age 47)

I do not put stock in all I see on TV or read online, EXCEPT for the wealth of experiences from people like you. I also do not want to pay for another doctor visit just to ask a question?

Any advice please???

For every 1 kid who grows boobs there are probably thousands of others who use it daily with no issues at all. I'm not a doctor mind you but I'd say the odds are in your favor that you will remain flat chested

Yeah it does do this....I'm not sure with what frequency but there is a lawsuit against the manufacturer...it's due to prolactin and risperidone is the worst at this and Geodon does the same. If you want an AP that does not raise prolactin at all there is abilify, I think the rest have at least some effect on it. As a female my breasts grew larger and I began to lactate....after stopping I stopped lactating but breasts were still larger...I really don't know why this isn't provided as an alternative to plastic surgery for people looking for enhancement. As far as teens...well that's just the typical population getting APs for the first time...I was 36 and the same thing happened so age doesn't make a difference. If they start growing they will feel sore...it's also over a few days when you start they meds so if you've been on it a while you're fine. For me I didn't see this effect until I got to 3mg per day.

I was thinking the same thing but I would imagine the odds of the majority of people increasing their bust size are too slim for the drug to be used for this reason.

It hasn't happened to me yet, and I'm on a much higher dose. Been on risperdal about 5 years.
