I've seen people say that Lexapro is very effective for anxiety. My psychiatrist switched me from Celexa to Effexor (weaning off the Celexa now - haven't started Effexor yet) and am wondering if Lexapro would be a better choice.

My anxiety is beyond the depths of anything I've ever known, let's just say that.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having a problem with anxiety. It can really interfere with everything in life. Effexor is FDA approved for the treatment of anxiety, so it must have some clinical trials demonstrating its effectiveness. I've been taking it for several years and it has helped me. Good luck! and give it a little time to get in your system. I hope it helps you, too!!

I have found Effexor XR to be very useful in the past. The only problem I had that made me try something else was when I was off meds and tried to get back on, effexor made me even more jittery and gave me an upset stomach until I was used to it again.

Effexor is one of the only drugs I have ever found useful for anxiety. I did, however, have a strange sensation in the beginning of being wrapped in cotton guaze and my mental alertness was "blunted" but it kind of felt like pot...er, not that I'd know..um..you get the point Effexor for anxiety?

But once I was used to it, these more extreme sensations subsided

Celexa and Lexapro are basically the same thing, so Effexor sounds like the best bet.

Yep. Effexor is the new Prozac (ie 'wonder drug')
What is meant to be good about this one is that it treats both anxiety and depression (and these are often found to be correlated)

It does need to be started gradually, however, or it can make your anxiety worse. Same regarding stopping taking it too. Many people find they need a gradual taper indeed or they get the anxiety (along with the nausea, headaches, brain zaps etc)
