I am ADHD & Hypomanic. I have been on 20 mg Lexapro (SSRI) for the past 6 years, which worked wonderfully until 2 months ago I began have signs of depression. My doctor put me on Wellbutrin SR 150 mg 21xs a day. (MAOI? what does this stand for is this another brain chemical) I know this affects dopamine & neurophnefrin. I take 10 mg abilify I think this works by either inhibiting or allowing dopamine to do what it should do. I take 20 mg Ritalin 3xs a day. I dont know what chemicals this affects. I also use (self medicate) with cocaine 1x a week I know this affects dopamine but I dont know how. What does Serotonin do. What does reuptake inhibitor mean. I am 44 diagnosed with ADHD at 21 and Hypomanic not until 42. I have always been ramy easily irritated, critical, angry, and thought this was just my normal self, I still have these feelings, I dont know if the mood stabilizers are working since I've been this way my whole life.

There are books written on the ?'s you posed, and the answer is rather complicated. PM me and we will discuss it. In the past when I discuss neurochemistry things gets a little heated on the forum for some reason.
To answer 1 question, MAOI refers to a class of drugs that inhibit moamine-oxidase which is an enzyme responsible for breaking down all momo-amine neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine etc.. They are VERY effective meds with ALOT of sid-effects. Dr.S. |
