Hello everyone!

I am currently undergoing a long tedious medical process and I am having a hard time coping. I have been very depressed lately and it is difficult for me to function at all. I do not eat, sleep, or go to class. I just cry and distract myself with mind numbing activities (computer games, movies, etc.) I am currently seeing a counselor but my depression seems to be getting worst and worst as more time goes on. A little background:

- My mother died when I was 15, they put me on antidepressants and I had a horrible reaction. Went into a coma.

- Ever since I have been able to take anything that affects my serotonin levels. From pain medicine to cough syrup, I always end up stuttering, delirious, and ultimately go back into a coma (if it isn't caught early enough).

- Currently I have been battling fainting spells (fainting about 3-4 times a week) and migraines (again 3-4 a week). I have been in and out of the hospital for almost a year and I have been on every drug known to man.

Additionally, I am a college student in my senior year trying to prepare for the "real world". Being sick has changed everything. I am getting my degree in Elementary Education, but now I am having to pick grad school since I can't be on my feet for much longer than five minutes without fainting. It's all so overwhelming!

I have a constant feeling of panic, like at any moment I am going to flip. I feel so overwhelmed and hopeless and I cannot function. I am failing my classes because I cannot get the inspiration to get out of bed in the morning. I just don't care anymore.
So, my question is: Are there any alternative medications to the typical SSRI's that will help with depression? I have been in counseling for almost a year and it is not helping. I'm very scared at where things are going to go from here.

Are you seeing a psychiatrist? Have they mentioned MAOI'S, Effexor, any of the mood stabilizers? If you are not seeing a psychiatrist, please get into see one immediately and see what they suggest. Good Luck and Take Care.
