I have depersonalization and DID and I'm wondering if anyone knows if Klonopin is a helpful medicine for this.
I have read some information about it and that it might be helpful. I've also read though that lamictal would be helpful for it and I'm on it and even though I have found it to be helpful for BP I have not found it to be for that issue at all. I have a lot of anxiety, but also an extreme amount of fatique and I need an excessive amount of sleep. Many say that anti-anxiety meds such as ativan are good for this issue as well and I've taken these(not on a constant basis), but I dont' want to feel doped up or anymore tired then I do. On the flip side and a little more experimental I guess they are saying that stimulants would be good for this issue because it would give you energy and sort of get you out of the "state". Help you think more clearly. Be more in the moment. Some stimulants would be ritalin, aderall etc. i'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this. I know it's a lot of information on many different meds. Even if you have any thoughts that would be great. Thanks

hard question to reply to because of so many differences between people and within inner systems with medications.
as for meds for dissociation? none that we're aware of. meds for concurrent diseases/disorders? sure, we're on a cocktail that is working for the most part. we've tried SSRIs w/o much long term luck. we're on another AD, we've run through most of the benzo class of meds and take an additional combo AD/anti anxiety..........did we set out to cocktail up? no way! are we grateful for the most part that our lives are livable now due to this cocktail of medications? oh heck ya!! it has been much trial and error over the years and with different pdocs support. we take meds for the major depression we suffer from, we have meds for the subsequent anxiety that comes along with the antidepressant (AD) we take, then there are a couple others just to balance it all out. the benefits outweigh the side effects (SE's) at this point in time. klonopin (clonazepam) is one that is very tricky for us as too much is sedating and causes secondary depression........too little and doesn't smooth over the SE's of the AD. took us a while to figure this out and get the dose right.....right for us that is. sorry for not having a more direct answer but hopefully the above gives one reason for there not being more replies. good luck.

Dear Eva,
I can speak to you about the great effects that I have had on stimulants throughout the years. Clearer, crisper, sharper mind, wide awake, etc. Those that I have taken are: ritalin, long-acting ritalin, dexedrine, adderrall and the rest of the lot. All of them have been very helpful. I would at least give them a try. Good Luck and Take Care. |

Hi Brookester
Thanks for replying. I spoke to my therapist about this and she thinks that this might be the route to go for me as well just because I have such issues with fatigue as well. She said that the Klonopin would have more of a sedative effect and that might not be so good. She made me make an appt. with a covering dr for meds on friday as to not wait too long b/c my regular dr is away on vacation. I'm just wondering if in general doctors are more hesitant with prescribing stimulants. I know all are not the same, but I guess because of the meds and ppl abuse them. It's interesting how so many kids are on these meds ...huh. Also, it's been questionable that I have adhd tendendencies and need a proper evaluation. I know that this medicine would be helpful. Thanks again for the input.
