I am breaking out in a rash on my cheeks going down to my neck. The only recent meds that I started are Depakote and Wellbutrin. Can either one of these cause this problem? My pdoc is away and I won't see him until 3/1/07. I read that I cannot stop the Depakote abruptly because it cause a seizure. Is this true? Thank you for your anticipated attention to these questions.

Hi

I'm no expert on Depakote by any means so don't take this as gospel but I beleive that its recommended you contact a doctor immediately if you get a rash whilst taking Depakote because it can indicate a more serious reaction

I wouldn't panic or anything but it might be worth you speaking to another doctor if yours isn't available til 1st March, even if its just to put your mind at rest

Hope you're feeling better soon

YES...... either one of these medicines could be the problem, and the rash could be telling you that you are having an allergic reaction to one of them.

I started a new arthritis meds back about 6 years ago and it was working GREAT! - but then about the 2nd or 3rd week of being on it I broke out with a rash that looked like I was burnt from head to toe..... NOW, I have to put Daypro down as a medicine I am allergic to.

One way to test and see if it is due to an allergic reaction is to........... pull back on the skin and if the rash disappears while you are tugging on the skin, but returns after you release the skin - then it is an allergic reaction, and I would take some Benadryl and then call you doctor on Monday.

Good Luck......................

I had an allergic reaction years ago to sulfa. Started with a rash then couldn't breathe. they put an iv in my arm with benedryl. Try taking some benedryl or call a pharmacist if you can't get your doctor. Or maybe you just got 'Mash Blotch'.

I don't mean to sound alarmist, but Wellbutrin can cause a rare but serious disorder whose hallmark sign is a rash. A doctor has to see the rash to know what kind it is; the Internet is no way to solve this dilemma. I think you should see a doctor as soon as you can do so, and settle any doubt.

Sorry to hear about your rash, Ag.

I would go to the ER if I were you & get checked out. Don't mean to scare you, but I broke out in hives a few years ago.......and my throat swelled up, too.......anaphylactic shock.....needed a shot of epi & lots of benedryl.

Good luck & take care.
