Can't go to sleep. I have Benadryl, Zolpidem, Sonata, and Nyquil. My next door neighbor will let me use. Can't see a doc till Wed. Which ones do you suggest? Help please.

Try some nyquil. If that doesn't work try a Sonata the next night. I'm sorry you have insomnia.

Benadryl is what is in Nyquil without all the other stuff in it. That usually works.

Try Chamomile tea. That and benadryl.

Zolpidem will work good but it can have some bizarre side effects. Not meant to be taken long term for anyone.

Zolpidem and Sonata are heavier duty drugs. They should work though.

I took Benadryl coincidently. Then your responses came. Went to bed at 9:30 and just woke at 3:00. Enough sleep to take me through the day. Thanks for all your support! So glad I joined PC!!!

Yeah sometime Benadryl, or ZZZquil, or Tylenol pm, all the same thing, will only get me 4 or 5 hours. If I take to much it has the opposite effect and I get wired.

I use Benadryl for my sinuses throughout the day so it has no real sleep effect on me anymore but it does for most people.

Just for future reference: I tried practically every prescription sleeping pill ever made and the only one that actually worked was Lunesta. YMMV.

Even Ambien doesn't work? The 12.5mg knocks me right out no matter how loud the neighbor's dog is barking!

Benedryl, Melatonin then you can get into the more powerful sleep aids like Ambien and Lunesta then even more powerful AP's like Seroquel. I take Seroquel. Without it I will not sleep.

Meds can sometimes help people to sleep but often developing healthy habits in preparation for sleep are just as effective - this is called "sleep hygiene".

You might find the suggestions in this link about sleep hygiene helpful: Sleep Hygiene | University of Maryland Medical Center .

I have found that sleep hygiene is very important. It is so easy to get those rhythms off. Depression messes my melatonin all up.
