Just wondering because i'm tired as it is. I don't want to be put on meds that make me tired during the day.No meds that make my stomach bother me either. I have Chrons and have stomach issues already.

i hate to be the bearer of bad news, but i have yet to find one that does NOT make me fatigued (most of them don't make me sleepy, either -- except trazedone AND when I first go on meds......). And I have been on:

desipramine
imipramine
clomipramine
tegretol
lithium
librium
luvox
paxil
prozac
zoloft
clonazepam
trazedone
moclobemide
imovane
ativan
dexidrine

actually, dexidrine kept me up -- it's a form of amphetamine.

worst stomach probs on moclobemide, prozac & desip that i can remember.

we are all chemically different, so that has to be taken into consideration, but............hope this helps.

I'm very sensitive to medications and can't take most of them that would help me if I could.

I don't know what kinds of meds you need so it's hard to talk from experience on those meds.

I can say that I take Ambian CR and have no tiredness and it doesn't make me sick. Same with Nexium, Tramadol, and flexeril. The meds that make me tired and/or sick, I only take them when I really have to have them.

It depends on what you need medication for. Sometimes SSRIs (anti-depressants) are actually prescribed as a treatment for Crohn's. My best friend takes Lexapro specifically for Crohn's -- not as a treatment for anxiety or depression. Some SSRIs (Celexa and Lexapro) and Clonazepam actually helped with my GI problems and resulted in fewer IBS flare-ups and less nausea.

This is something you need to talk to your doctor about though -- be open and clear about what's bothering you, what you want the medication to help you with, and your physical problems. The more information you give your doctor, the better able to help you he/she will be.

As for meds that don't make you tired during the day, once again it depends on what you need to be treated for. I can only speak from my own experience. I take Lexapro every day and it doesn't make me tired. I recently had to switch from taking it at night to taking it in the morning instead because it was keeping me awake at night. Now that I'm taking it in the day, I have more energy and I sleep well at night. We're all unique, though, so medications can affect us differently.

A lot of medications have been hard on my digestive system for the first week or two, but once my body is adjusted to the medication, my GI problems almost always get better rather than worse.

So, talk to your doc. Only he/she can tell you what's best for you. Make sure you let your doc know about all your concerns -- psychological, emotional and physical. It can be very dangerous to try to diagnose yourself and choose drugs yourself. Good luck. I hope your doctor can help you to feel better.

I'm not saying it will work as well as a psych drug, but you might try adding fish oil supplements to your diet. Studies suggest they may help with depression. Be sure to ask for the non-mercury ones, and ones without impurities. You can ask at GNC, for instance, and they should be able to help you.

You can test to make sure you've got good-quality ones, without mercury and whatnot, but taking one of the supplements and poking it with a pin, squeezing out the liquid inside on a China plate or similar (NOT paper), then put it in the freezer for at least five hours, if not overnight. When you pull it out, the liquid should either evaporate or remain a liquid, which will tell you it's high-quality. If it's coagulated or gotten slushy, you don't want it.

I hope i can get stuff that works good for me. Makes me less tired. I don't react well to a lot of drugs. I think it might be because i have Epilepsy. Most drugs make feel kind of blah. Plus have had Dr's in the past give me meds that made things worse.

Hi guys,

You know what has really helped me?

Taking an excellent vitamin B12 supplement (1000 micrograms), a high-potency B-complex (w/ @ least 100 mcg of the major B vit's -- espec vit B6, > 0.1 mg of Folic Acid & ~ 100 mcg of Biotin) daily. Btw, vit B is much better absorbed w/ the help of vit C, so have some OJ, AJ, citrus fruit or dark green leafy vegies when you take them.

I hear selenium (~100 mcg) is also good for brain function.

Disclaimer:** Please know that I am NOT a doctor -- so pls consider my advice after additonal reading in books & consultation w/ your dr......and pls don't sue my a##, LOL **

Feel free to PM me about this, if you want.
