I was taking lofepramine ( a tricyclic ) for around a year. It disrupted my periods somewhat, but then they abruptly stopped. I didn't have a period for four months. I then changed to a different type of a/d ; trazodone. Lo and behold my periods came back as normal ! Has anyone else had similar problems, experiences ? I did bring it up with my doctor who was no help whatsoever. Now that my cycle seems to have gone back to 'normal' I'd like to discuss with my doctor how this happened. Anyone (ladies) had menstrual problems with a/d's ?

That is odd. I just started taking Lexapro, and my period started 2 days early.

Unless your talking with a reproductive endocrinologist, or an ob/gyn (maybe) chances are your doc may not know why it's messing with your cycle.

If your taking birth control too, some of them can cause your periods to stop.

I believe my current a/d is messing with my menstrual cycle. Ever since I started luvox, my period has been looong, which is so annoying. "Menstrual changes" is listed as a rare side effect of luvox.

Look yours up, you might find something as to why it would do this. If you do, I would love to know why an a/d would mess with a menstrual cycle. It seems like such a weird side effect!

I had some changes on Strattera. I can't remember on the others, but they all caused so much weight gain, which caused changes to my cycle.

Interesting... I never considered my meds a factor in my changing cycles... I had my tubes tied 1 1/2 yrs ago and had always assumed that somehow that was the cause of all the changes, but maybe it's my meds...

I've had no problems with periods on ADs, other meds have mucked them up.

Unapproved/Off-Label/Investigations:

I do believe "Lofepramine" is being studied for problems with irregular menstrual cycle, therefore, this FYI is unapproved at this time - as far as the FDA goes.

PLUS...... remember that "alteration in menstrual cycle" is a symptom of DEPRESSION

Interesting. It's not too suprising to me that AD's can change the menstrual cycle (mine hasn't been changed by depression, but I just finished my first cycle on AD's and it began 2 days early, and was 2 days longer than usual, what a pain to have a 9 day period) seeing as the AD's are changing your brain chemistry, therefore changing your body chemistry. Many hormones play a role in when you ovulate, and finally menstruate, so I guess I wasn't too suprised to see "menstrual changes" listed as a side effect.
