This time of year I always have a hard time sleeping so I got put on trazadone to help me sleep. I am to take 1-2 pills as needed. Well the last few night I've had to take at least 4 to go to sleep and get a good rest. I called my pdoc this morning and left her a message I hope she gets it because one of the first indications I'm getting manic is when my sleep cycle is messed up. Yes I'm getting ready for finals so a little manic would be a good thing so I can get my projects done but sheesh 2 hours is not enough sleep.

I don't get it...why trazadone, which is an antidepressant with sedative qualities?
Why not plain old ambien or a benzo?

benzos are NOT good for sleep problems secondary to any psychiatric condition. They interfere with the sleep cycle and cause more problems. Ambien/Lunesta may be better, and I have to believe they are, but are not long-term solutions. I prefer 25-50 mg of seroquel or 7.5 mg of mirtazapine.

Well last night was again a night of 2 hours sleep...I feel like I'm the walking dead. I am so tired and have a test this morning so it will be interesting to see how I do on it.

I talked with the nurse at my clinic yesterday and she told me I'm take 300-400mg of trazadone so I did last night with some tylenol PM and benadryl and still didnt' fall asleep until around 4 and had to get up at 6:15 to meet my dad. It was all I could do to keep from going back home and back to bed.

After my test in Business Communications class I"m gonna run to the SS office and then come back to school and sleep in my car I hope.

Bad nursing advice. If Trazadone does not work at 50-100 mg it won't work. You should try Ambien CR.
