I need a new antidepressant!

Zoloft has pooped out on me, and I'm sliding into a deep depression which really can't happen now because I go back to school in 2 weeks. I called my pdoc and left him a message explaining what's going on and asking if I could get a new script even though I can't see him because I'm working and go back to school soon...but I feel like I've been on everything!

Here's what I've been on:

• Zoloft (twice now)
• Lexapro
• Celexa
• Effexor XR
• Prozac

...and probably more that I can't think of because my brain is functioning at probably 50% right now.

I want something effective that works fast, and it would be awesome if it helps with OCD too, though right now I'd rather deal with that monster than the depression if those are my options.

Lexapro worked great for me for about 2 years then pooped out, and the same with Zoloft. Celexa and Effexor were horrible, and Prozac was just so-so.

What else is out there? Any suggestions? In terms of psych meds I'm also on Latuda and klonopin, so I can pretty much take anything...and if I suggest something, chances are my pdoc will willingly write a script for it.

He'll probably call in the morning, so, suggestions please!

Cymbalta (SNRI--they tend to work faster than SSRIs), Paxil (SSRI), and Wellbutrin, either alone or with an SSRI or SNRI are a few options. I've been on all of those, plus everything you mentioned except Lexapro, at various points. I think Abilify is like Wellbutrin in that it can be added to help other meds--p-doc offered me that or Wellbutrin recently, and I went with Wellbutrin.

Everyone reacts differently, so I won't share my reactions except to say that I also had problems with Effexor, as well as Prozac. Good luck!

Thanks! I know everyone reacts differently, so I always take reactions with a grain of salt. I can't take Abilify (that's one I forgot on my list -- it made me even more depressed when I tried it).

Hey! Since I am crazy, I thought I might have some crazy suggestions! (sorry, that was bad...)

Vilazodone(Viibryd): An SMS, Serotonin modulator and stimulator. Meh

Agomelatine(Valdoxan): A NDDI, I am not sure if it's out on the market
yet though...

Imipramine(Tofranil): It's a TCA that can also help with agitation or
anxiety!

Reboxetine(Edronax): NRI, depression, panic disorder, and ADHD... Not in
US...

Nortriptyline(Sesoval, Pamelor): It's a TCA with less side effects! Helps
with anxiety in some...

Vortioxetine(Brintellix): Another SMS, said to help w/ depression &
anxiety.

Maybe try Adderall, or Vyvanse? Those tend to work to give people more motivation in depression...

Anyway, those are some that aren't too typically prescribed that might work! They are a little different from some of the ones you have taken...

SingDanceRunLife, just because you've been on a med that crapped out on you before doesn't mean it won't help you now. I've switched back to certain SSRI's months or years after they stopped working for me & they worked fine, or differently.

He prescribed me wellbutrin. I'll start it tomorrow morning.

Hope it helps! And you can add lots of other things to Wellbutrin if it's not enough. I haven't really noticed any side effects from being on it, except maybe a little trouble sleeping the first 2 days (but I have trouble sleeping anyway, so might not have been that).

Paxil worked great for me. So did Doxepin.

Wellbutrin made me manic, but I hope it helps you. Its really activating!

I suggest Cymbalta. I've been on it for more than 5 years and it consistently works for me.
