Has anyone taken, or is currently on Viibryd?
I just got a prescription for it- but I have only read bad reviews.
Although medications affect everyone different; and it just depends on what works for you..... I've noticed one common thing many people have said they don't like.
They say they get sleep paralysis!! As a side effect!!!

Has anyone else experienced this?

Any shares about your time on Viibryd would be helpful

Thank you!

I took Viibryd for maybe 6 months. For me it seemed to help with depression -- I felt more positive and "alive" while I was taking it. The problem is that it gave me digestive problems... specifically diarrhea. At first I thought it exacerbated my lactose intolerance but even when I completely gave up dairy I was still getting sick at least once a week. So I had to switch again.

I never experienced any sleep paralysis, personally. But you're right, medications can affect people differently. Good luck!

I'm taking Viibryd and wouldn't change it for the world. It's the only antidepressant I've ever taken that doesn't cause sexual side effects (well, maybe a little DE, but I can't be sure) and doesn't make me feel numb. Overall it's the bomb-diggity. I can really tell that it's kept me out of some serious funks as well over the past 1-1/2 years.

The only side effect I've experienced is weight gain. I seriously can't eat over 1500 calories a day (every day, can't even have 1 day to eat pizza a week). I've put on about 40 pounds. But to be honest, I would rather deal with the weight gain than the depression and side effects.

By the way, there's no generic yet so it's really expensive. But your doctor can give you a card to bring the cost down significantly. With insurance mine costs $75/month, but with the card it brings it down to $25/month. So be sure to ask for a prescription card to go with it.

I've heard of Sleep Paralysis as being a side effect also. Maybe it's rare- but that has scared me away from taking it Like I need another reason to be scared.

I wonder if there is another medication that is similar and in generic form?

I took it for a few months and it did next to nothing (but I also had no negative side effects), so I went off it and tried something else. But it's an SSRI so there are tons of meds like it that come in generic form.

My pdoc in late July gave me a sample pack of Viibryd and a Rx. I took the first seven days of the 10mg tablets and took two days of the 20mg tablets and at that point I was feeling very unwell. I was in the hospital where my dad was in critical care and I was feeling very dizzy. I went to the emergency dept and my initial blood pressure was 159/109. They gave me a liter of saline and advised me to get more rest (not happening, see my other thread).

I asked the ED doc if I should stop the Viibryd and she said that was the decision of the prescribing doc. So being seven and a half hours away from home I made the decision to stop the med at least until I could return home and follow up with my pdoc. The dizziness subsided and I bought a BP cuff at the CVS near that hospital and my blood pressure is much improved.

Just started taking it yesterday, so I can't say one way or another. I read up on it on webmd and was pleased for the most part. All drugs have side effects, it's just a matter of what you can live with. Time will tell and I post about this more later.

I haven't tried it yet. I'm still nervous about the side effects. And the cost doesn't work for me. I've got too many medical bills that need to get paid.

I appreciate your reply's and look forward to more

Thanks!

It's an SSRI, but also has increase activity on a specific serotonin receptor. A generic comparison would be one of the SSRIs such as citalopram or Sertraline PLUS buspirone (Buspar)

I'm on week 3 now. Started at 10mg for the first seven days, then went to 20mg. I'm on day 11 of 20 mg. So far, so good. I've had some diarrhea, but then I had that problem before I started on Viibryd - psychosomatic - and it's gotten a little bit better. The first few days of 20 mg I had horrible insomnia, but that has also gotten better. Overall, I'd say it's a good drug from what I've experienced so far. I no longer have depressive episodes, and I haven't had a dissociation violent episode either since I started taking it.

I can't say I'm completely sold on it yet. I haven't been on it long enough, but for now, it looks promising.

Mine does too-- but there is a discount card Viibryd offers, which brings it down to $25/month. Doctors should have access to this discount card. Hope that helps

Thank you for sharing this information I'm only on day 3, but these past two days I've had wayyy more energy than usual! I too have the side effect of diarrhea-it's really mild though; but I was extremely constipated before. So this is kind of a win-win.
We'll have to continue to compare notes.

I was just prescribed this @10mg to start. I hope I don't gain anymore weight. I'm already beast. Overall it sounds like a good med. Hopefully it starts to bring me out of this depression I'm in.

I made it through the titration pack, and am staying at 40mg now. It worked great, but for the past couple of weeks, i'm not sure. I've gotten weepy sometimes.
Only side effect so far.... the dreaded weight gain. Boooo.

I'm glad to hear it has been working well for others!

Just an opinion on my part, and I don't know anything about your medical history, but I can tell you, at 20 mg, it contributed to me being suicidal, so I backed off to 10 mg. At that dosage, I still feel really good, no peeing out my butt (sorry, I know that's crude, rude and socially unacceptable, but well...it's the BEST description and everyone here knows it! LOL! ) and I'm a lot calmer. At 20 mg, I was more of a 'Tigger' than a 'Werewoman'. Luckily, there was no serious damage to my abode...

At 10mg, I'm more functional (okay, more functional FOR ME - big difference I know...) At least, I think I am...I could be wrong. I was wrong once before.

Seriously, though, I've been on every SSRI there is, and this is the only one I can not only tolerate, but I seem to thrive on.

WW

Luckily, the bowel movement side effect went away. I wish the weight gain would go away too.
But maybe a lower dosage would be better! I will have to discuss that with my doc.
Thanks for the idea.
This is my 2nd time being on an SSRI. Seemed the first go around worked, but then stopped a few months later.
Viibryd seems to work fast..... but being on the 40, it also stopped working fast. Maybe it's just the dosage amount.

Well, it's different for everyone, regardless of dosage I think. I just found 10 mg to be sufficient, so I don't see any need to go higher.

Oh, and the digestive system has returned to normal as well.

I have been on this medication and it did absolutly nothing for me personally so I went off it relatively quickly.

I think I am going to have to quit it. I started feeling relatively "low" and then it seems the bottom fell out over the weekend. To say I haven't thought about death would be a lie. I'm not actively suicidal or anything, but it has crossed my mind which is not normal for me. I started the Viibryd a week or so ago and was just depressed before I started taking it. I'm gonna call my PDoc's office this morning if I can just stay up long enough to call. I've been sleeping in excess of 16 hours a day for the last 3-4 days. I'm borderline crisis at this point and don't want to end up being committed or anything.
