I am interested to hear how people do with Wellbutrin, particularly the standard release version. I took it once about 10 years ago in the XR version and remember not doing well with one of the generics. I felt physically exhausted l the time. Not sleepy tired but physically spent. My muscles felt week too, especially in my abdomens. Interestingly, I had a similar side effect with Buspar and also Adderall XR. My pdoc prescribed me the standard release poll for me and is starting me at 75mg, increasing to 150 after one week.

My question is has anyone else felt this extreme exhaustion from Wellbutrin and/or other meds? Also, has anyone noticed it with XR versions of meds in contrast to standard or immediate release versions?

I do see drowsiness listed as a side effect in the data information.

My reaction to Wellbutrin (which I'm on now at 150 mg--I think SR?--with Zoloft) is similar to what I had physically with Cymbalta and Effexor--they all affect neurepinephrine, so it makes sense. It's hard to describe though. I have a certain feeling when I take Tylenol, where...I don't know it's like my muscles and head feel kind of weird. It's difficult to describe. It's not a pleasant sensation for me, but not actual pain per se. I want to get off the Wellbutrin because it's giving me that effect. (Thankfully, I haven't had the psychological side effects I did with Effexor or Cymbalta, or I'd have been off it shortly after I started.) I feel like it's interfering with my sleep too.

I've been on Wellbutrin XL for a couple of weeks now, and it took effect right away. I have more energy now and my reliance on caffeine has decreased dramatically.

Well I can tell you from my experience taking the generic form Buproprin, that I had nasty side effects for weeks. My suicidal thoughts got worse, and I mean really bad. That intensity went away but I'm left with passive thoughts now. The one thing I did notice, same as what was mentioned, my reliance on caffeine is significantly less. It has never made me tired though.

Thank you all for your responses which are very helpful. I'm trying to go slow and take it at night and see if the weakness/fatigue subsides. It's not constant and when it's not present I feel like my mood has already improved, so I'm hopeful for now.

Interesting how medication effects people so differently. I aske my psychiatrist how he chooses which antidepressants to prescribe for patients and he told me side effects, are the deciding factor.

I've heard that it can keep you awake at night, so I would think taking it in the morning is best. At least that's what I do.

I had heard the same thing so I've been on the fence about when to take it. I may try late afternoon/ early evening.
