As the title said. I usually take it about 3 hours ago but I can't remember if I took it or not. I don't think I did but I'm not 100% certain. I dunno what to do =S

Addition: Are you talking about once-a-day Effexor XR or the 2-3 times per day type? Also, what mg dose?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have been in that situation with both Effexor and Cymbalta. It's definitely a dilemma, because with the SNRI drugs, if you skip a day, you are likely going to feel horrible the next day. I have taken a double dose a couple of times and got a really horrendous headache. If you didn't take the dose, do you think you'll start to get any withdrawal effects before bedtime? ("Brain zaps", numbness in your lips or fingertips, whatever else you may feel, if anything, if you are late with a dose.) If I am not sure if I've taken a dose of Cymbalta, I wait until I can tell for sure from the side effects that I haven't, and then I take it. (Say the next morning.) I then will take the next dose at the regular time. It tends to throw me off for a couple of days, but it's the best solution I've come up with. |

Hi Jo Thorne, thanks for the response.
XR and 187.5mg Yeah that's what I was worried about, that if I do double dose I end up badly as well as missing. These SNRI's are rather finicky, aren't they. I've never missed a dose on this med or been too late taking it so I have no reference point to how my body will react. If I can ask, which tends to be the lesser of two evils for you? Double dose or missed? Which feels worse and what lasts longer?

Well, I ended up taking it. I'm more sure that I didn't take it than I did and there doesn't seem to be a "good" resolution. Wish me luck

How about getting a pill box? I know I'd never remember if I took my meds or not without my pill boxes!!

I have one. I'm not really sure why I don't use it more. I forget to I guess? I dunno. I filled it up after I took them an hour ago, though. Can't wait to get off this med. Only reason I'm still on it is because my pdoc thinks it'd be prudent to give a higher dose a try for good measure, just in case. This might be my last AD I try though. At least for now. No use beating a dead horse (I mean the meds don't work for me). I digress.

It can take awhile to find the right med(s). How many ADs have you tried? And have they all been SNRIs like Effexor? If they have, maybe try giving SSRIs a shot, or maybe wellbutrin which to be honest I don't know what class it's in, but I know it was very effective very quickly for me.

Looks like I made the right choice to take my meds last night. Yikes! Dodged the proverbial bullet!
Thank you sing! I've tried all classes of AD meds by now. At least two of each of all doses for a few months each including APs. Welbutrin did about as much as a sugar pill lol. It's an atypical AD I believe. Actually it's my pdoc who suggested this to be the last one. I know some people spend decades looking for "the right meds" but it looks like the doctors here aren't too crazy about it. I mean, I've been going at this for over 3.5 years now with almost zero beneficial results so, *shrugs*. I've had 2 pdocs say the same thing now. "Why pump these strong drugs through my blood if they aren't helping." I can appreciate that lol. Therapy hasn't been helpful either (at all) but I still have two more tricks up my sleeve. I have 1 on 1 subsidized therapy I'm waiting to get into that will last up to 12 weeks. There's also a CBT program I haven't tried yet that is covered. But after that... I don't know. OK some solutions for future...
-Keep a small note pad, and write down when you take. -Once you take medicine move to different part of counter to keep track. Just some suggestions to consider. |

Those are awesome suggestions Ocean5 that I had never thought of before. I especially like the second one. I think I will give it a go. Thank you!

Is 187.5 mg 2.5 75 mg pills? If it is, and this happens again, you can always take a half dose.
What generally happens with me is that I have no clue that I missed a dose or doubled a dose until I wake up the next morning. I'd have to say that a doubled dose is worse, if you're talking about a full double dose. When I took Effexor, it was 375 mg (high dose because it was also for fibromyalgia pain) and a couple of times I accidentally took two doses in the evening. That's what - 750 mg? Enough to cause high blood pressure and a horrible headache. I have a 7-day pill container but it's not filled right now. Bad habit. I know I need to fill it because taking the meds becomes a muscle memory, and I'm thinking about what I'm going to do next while I'm actually taking them, so I'm often left with no memory of whether or not I took them. Lately I'm doing the "line up the pill bottles" (4 of them) trick. If I thought I could get by without prescription antidepressants, I would totally do it and try things like sam-E and 5-HTP and EFA (essential fatty acids) and folate and vitamin D and all those vitamin and mineral supplements that are recommended for combating depression. I'm already doing quite a bit of the food stuff specifically recommended for depression and am just now starting yoga again. Oh, I'd do acupuncture, too, especially for anxiety. Also massage. (I can't afford the supplements or acupuncture or massage.) I'm unfortunately stuck with what my health insurance covers for now. |
