Hey I have a question. My gf is currently hospitalized but she's tried risperdone , geodon, latuda and saphris for 2 days which sent her into depression. Now she's on amblify. In a matter of 3 months. What are other drugs she could try as she's 19 and worried about weight gain?

Lithium. She's been hospitalized for mental illness; let's favor survival over vanity and set aside concerns of weight gain for a little while to see if she can regain equilibrium under the gold standard of psychotropic medicine. Had I not been denied this magic salt due to reduced kidney function, I would at this very moment be sipping a lithium smoothie. Oh, and I almost forgot: Latuda blows.

Clozapine (clozaril) often works when other AP's don't.

I disagree that "Latuda blows". I happen to really like it.

Zyprexa Zydis is an option. It works the same as regular Zyprexa, but for some reason causes less weight gain -- in my case, none whereas regular caused me to gain 35lbs in 2 months. Seroquel is another option. Yes, it's known for weight gain, but it's never caused me to gain weight and it's definitely effective.

I understand the issue of being worried about weight gain, but there comes a point at which that concern drops because you'd rather be psychologically sound over everything else.

I would also add that she might be able to try some of those again later when she is more stable. It sounds like they tried a lot of drugs but not for very long...these drugs take weeks, sometimes six weeks or more, to really have an effect. Don't lose hope, as it sounds like she didn't have a long enough trial on at least some of these. I hope she finds something that works for her and I second the comment about weight gain being a secondary concern at this point.

Thank you so much! I mean I've told her I'll still love her if she gains weight. But she said she just lost a lot of weight and she's really body conscious. Could they give her anything to combat weight gain?

She's not guaranteed to gain weight on lithium; I didn't. I put on weight on the subsequent antipsychotics.

Taken Zyprexa with an antacid plus eating no more than 10 % total carb could halt weight gain. Seroquel with the same diet.

Or a first generation AP which comes with other type side effects.
