I have taken nearly all the antipsychotic meds and most of them make me tired hungry and in a daze I don't see how this is much better then having these mental illness. My memory is shot I have no idea what I enjoy anymore and most of the time I don't have thoughts it's like someone took my passion for life ugg!i feel like I am always playing ketchup and fighting for my presents, I have gained close to 60lbs since November. I use to be in tip top shape until they started experimenting with the differnt medication. Most the time I am wrestling with my thoughts to try to just be here, I have lost soon much precious time and moments with my son!

I have not tried it but my pdoc gave me info about it. It seems it'll be the next one up if Rexulti doesn't work.
Anyone else tried this?

Geodon is a weight neutral AP. For me, it basically killed my appetite. Unfortunately, it didn't work well for me, but it's excellent for some people.
Latuda is another weight neutral med. For me, it has worked well. |

Latuda was weight neutral for me. Maybe caused me to lose a little weight because it decreased my appetite.
Geodon was also weight neutral, but gave me a horrible tremor so I got off it. |

I was just given samples of Vraylar yesterday and will report back if I have something useful to share.
1.5mg/day for 2 weeks 3mg/day thereafter Last night I took my first 1.5mg dose at 10pm anticipating a little drowsiness. At 3am I finally got to sleep with the help of Valium and Tylenol PM. I slept until 8:30am. I feel well rested. I think that I was a little emotionally charged yesterday because there's always that hope that a new med will be the magic bullet that will return my awesomeness (my mojo baby! yea!). So that might not be a great indicator yet. Until yesterday I was taking Latuda 80mg and my doc said I was having a mixed episode now. I also take Prozac 20mg (eod), Vistiril and Valium. I was taking Prozac every day but today I skip every other day. This needs to be considered when I report on my progress with Vraylar. For confidence in the med, my doc told me that she had two patients that switched to it and are doing very well. I have a great doc. Day 1: I can't say there is a significant change right now. I am clear headed. I have enough drive to get online and get involved in this forum which is progress to a degree. I don't expect to see changes right away. No side effects yet. |

I tried it last month. I had grogginess and it did nothing for my moods.
I got the side effects with no help. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk |

Day 2:
I took the Vraylar at 5pm. It doesn't hit me like Saphris (sublingual) with quick onset drowsiness. I took Valium and Tylenol PM at 11pm and fell asleep at 12am. In the time between when I took the Vraylar and fell asleep I noticed my energy and mood were a little mellower. I woke up at 8am feeling well rested. I took 20mg of Prozac today. I have been taking Prozac for about 2 months everyday. To recap: my doc told me to take it every other day when I started the Vraylar. I don't want to be too analytical but I seem to feel a little less energetic and my mood is not as high as it was yesterday. I'm not sure if it's the Prozac or I'm just less emotionally high from the new med hope. I have seen some controversy on the matter of antidepressants not being helpful to bipolar patients and possibly cause mania. There is also a possibility that quitting the Latuda could cause some side effects but I was told it shouldn't. There are a lot of variables to consider so everything I experience might not be just the Vraylar. I was told I would know for sure how well it's working within a few weeks. Side effects: I noticed a little constipation which is rare for me as I am a vegetarian (I know....Saphris..gelatin--I do what I have to) and everything is easy peasy usually. Actually when I first started Prozac I got diarrhea but it slowed. As the Vraylar builds up in my system I'll monitor the constipation. I am 5'10" 193lbs yesterday. I'm 192lbs today. I have been losing weight lateley because I gained weight on other meds (highest 225lbs). I've been doing a lot of switching meds this last year. I'll report on my weight too because my doc says it doesn't cause weight gain but the manufacturers website says weight gain is a potential side effect (though not as common as others according to other sources.) It's a SGA so it looks like they applied the logic that all SGAs can cause weight gain...according to another source. BTW, I'm not trying to turn this into a blog...I just want to share my experience and get my five posts in so I can check out chat. I do intend to keep progress up on here though. |

I think youve had a lot of changes at once so its hard to tell which is doing what.
But as long as the side effects arent debilitating like they were for me, i'd say stick it out for the few weeks it will take for everything to regulate. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk |

Day 10:
Still taking 1.5mg in first two weeks. No side effects are consistent....no drowsiness. I take the pill around 8pm and still need Valium and Tylenol PM to sleep by midnight. I seem to be a little low in mood but I don't think it's the Vraylar. I'll check in every so often with progress. |

I haven't tried it yet. Currently I'm taking Geodon and Saphris, but I'm transitioning off the Saphris because of weight gain. Let me know how the Vyraylar works out.

Day 14:
Yesterday was my last of two weeks of 1.5mg...I take 3mg hereafter. No major side effects except maybe a little weight gain. I started at 193lbs and now I'm 198lbs. To be fair I am not sure it's the Vraylar as I'v been a little down in mood and eating more than usual. One of the other changes with the Vraylar replacing Latuda was that I went from taking 20mg of Prozac every day to every other day...that's probably why I'm down. cincidak, I used to take Saphris 5mg then later 15mg. I gained a little weight on the higher dose as I was just always hungry. Overall Saphris was great for me for five years but then it stopped helping. I'll post progress with the 3mg dose as I go along. |

Day 17:
3mg is building up quickly in my system considering the half life of Vraylar is 2-5 days. I do feel a little better. I am not so down now. I'm not really that up either though. I hope the Vraylar is helping by now but I know it can take time. No side effects really. I weighed 195lbs today. I'm only sleeping about 6 hours a night but thats pretty normal for me. I'll keep you all updated. |

Day 21:
I feel so much better than when I started the Vraylar. I feel more engaged and a little happier in the past few days. I hope it continues to build. I have some hope here. No real side effects at this time. I started out at 193lbs and fluctuated but am at 194lbs today. I can live with that...but it's still early. My doc told me I won't gain weight but the manufacturer's website said it is a possible side effect. No drowsiness or stupor. My doc just put me on Lunesta 3mg for sleep as I was having to use Tylenol PM and Valium to sleep 5-6hrs a night. I have taken name brand Lunesta before and it was great. I have a generic from Teva now and I'm not sure it works as well as I took it last night and it took over an hour to kick in and I only slept 5hrs. It's one day though. I switched from Paxil to Prozac two months ago and it has made a difference too. I have lost weight since coming off the Paxil and Saphris....although I don't think Saphris put weight on in small 5mg/day. I expect to continue to lose weight from this. Today I would say it's a good med. I'll keep you all posted. Last edited by tydygy; Jun 23, 2016 at 02:50 PM. |

Day 24:
I feel better most of the time now and I'm getting back into playing music again (big win). I am a little low today but it's probably from the cocktail of sleep meds I had to chug to sleep a few hours. I don't know if it's Prozac or Vraylar that's giving me sleep issues. No real side effects that I can pinpoint to Vraylar. I still weigh 194lbs. I am a lot thirstier but I'm in Phoenix and you tend to get thirsty in the Summer. I took the Vraylar today at 3pm instead of 8pm as before to see if it effects getting to sleep tonight. FYI: I found a few reviews on Vraylar on another site: https://www.drugs.com/comments/cariprazine/vraylar.html Today I am happy and hopeful with Vraylar....it's still early though. |

I'm starting Vraylar on Weds, and appreciate the reviews from tydygy. I'm curious to see if anyone else can provide feedback on this drug.

Day 29:
Overall I feel good still and am continuing to feel better. Everyone that knows me that has seen me recently have been saying how much better I seem to be. I don't feel as good inside yet as I seem to look on the outside though. I don't notice any side effects at this point. I'm 194lbs today (started at 193lbs). Sleep is getting back to normal. No leg shaking or anything like that. No sexual disfunction or libido effects. I don't feel overmedicated on 3mg. It doesn't seem to matter what time of day I take it....so that's nice. I have a Rx for 3mg but have some samples of 1.5mg capsules to help me out if I start getting more depressed due to stopping Prozac. My sleep problems are getting better...I'm off Prozac now and after three days I slept a lot last night with no pills. Now I am just taking Vraylar alone so any side effects or benefits are likely only Vraylar. The cost of 30 x 3mg capsules of Vraylar is $1153.97 from Walmart. When my doc gives me samples it makes the cost of seeing her seem like nothing. So that's a month on Vraylar so far. I like it today. I'll keep posting. |

Week 5:
I have been on Vraylar for 5 complete weeks now. Things seem good...better than when I was on Latuda 80mg. Although if this doesn't work out I would go back to Latuda as it was the next best med I've been on. I started to feel low again after stopping the Prozac so I called my doc and started Prozac again...and I'm feeling better again. The Vraylar could have been increased to 4.5mg but I was better off with Prozac again. I can't see any side effects at all. I'm 195lbs today but it fluctuates a few lbs back and fourth. My memory seems good still or did I already say that?lol Motor functions are good and coordination is getting better. I can't quite say I feel like my old self again and ready to take on the world but I am better than I have been in a while...according to others around me I seem a lot better and am more social. I've been on a few meds the last few years and so far I like this the best. I have been on Latuda, Saphris, Invega, Depakote, and Paxil. I prefer them in that order...mostly because of side effects and effectiveness. It's still early but the Vraylar is working at 3mg for me now. I keep posting |

Glad it's working out for you! The weight fluctuation is completely normal. You would most likely fluctuate that much even on no meds at all!
I'm gonna ask my pdoc about it when I see her on Thursday. After doing some research it seems like it might be my best bet. But there are others I'll mention and we'll see what happens. She's usually pretty cool with me calling the shots within reason, so I can probably try anything I want right now. |

Thank you tydygy for the updates on Vraylar.
I've been on it for two weeks now, and I have to say that I think I like it. I haven't had any weight gain yet, it doesn't make me sleepy or nauseated or more elevated like so many meds that I've tried have done. I'm actually feeling better, more level, than I have in a very long time. I'm hopeful that this will be the med for me and that this feeling will last for a while.

Week 6:
I've been on Vraylar for six complete weeks now. Some small changes and I'll recap so you don't have to go to the previous page if you don't want to. I feel good...not great. I am still having some low days but they are less frequent. I take Prozac 20mg along with the 3mg of Vraylar. I tried stopping the Prozac but got too low too fast and talked to my pdoc to get back on. I don't know if stopping the Prozac means that Vraylar alone doesn't help MY BP depression or that I came off Prozac too quick....SSRIs can mess with your mood when you stop but Prozac is not supposed to be so bad....it was. No side effects that I can tell. I would say it's weight neutral because I was losing weight before I started (was on Latuda 80mg) Vraylar. I have been steady at around 194+or- a couple lbs. I would like to be about 10-15lbs lighter as I am 5'10". Memory is improving even still and motor skills are not hindered. I sleep about five hours a night now. It seems fine. My pdoc wants me to get eight but 5-6 is what I can do with Tylenol PM and Valium. Generic Lunesta did nothing for me. I get feedback from my family and friends that I seem much better than before. I'm a little more active on my good days. I play music more often and even jammed with a friend. I haven't felt that good feeling in so long. I'm very happy with Vraylar right now. I expect to keep feeling better as the weeks go on. Thanks to the members that posted thanks as I didn't know if it was helpful or just noise. Maybe others will want to chime in with their progress. If anyone has any questions or wants me to include something in my updates let me know. I'll keep posting. |

I am glad that someone posted this because my pdoc just gave me some samples the last time I saw him. However, I called the number for my prescription coverage and my pharmacist and they told me that a 30 day supply of 1.5mg is $760. How can anyone afford this?!

8 Weeks:
I'm on Vraylar 3mg a day for the better part of two months and it seems to be going well. I don't feel GREAT at this time but I do feel so much better and clearheaded. I am starting to get motivated to tackle more complex tasks...this means a lot to me. i.e I have a recording studio that is very complex with cables everywhere (ocd organized though!) and I am managing to wrap my mind around the schematics again. I'm doing some programming that I couldn't before. All that being said, I feel like I really need to get on the ball and get my life improved and fast....my pdoc said that I was just becoming clearer and "waking up" and having normal emotions about my situation which I am grateful for overall but I want to feel even better. She says I'll get there. Feedback from others is positive overall regarding my moods and actions. I'm more elated but not manic. People say they hear it in my voice. No side effects that I can tell. No memory or cognitive problems...libido returned to a baseline....no weight gain. I also take Prozac 20mg and Valium(PRN). I only sleep about five hours a night right now and I still take Tylenol PM and Valium to help me sleep. Generic Lunesta didn't work. Name brand did. I hope that doesn't happen with Vraylar...but I think the patent will keep that from happening for a bit. I'm grateful insurance pays for all of it for me as it is over $1100 for 30 x 3mg caps. Latuda and Saphris were expensive too and insurance covered that too. I've taken all of those this last 18 months or so. Vraylar is better for me than anything else I've been on. In fact, because there's no side effects and side effects from other drugs have gone away, it feels like I'm getting to be my old self again. Thanks for the feedback folks. I'll keep posting once in a while. |
