My Dr just prescribed me this today after tapering off pristiq and finding my depression was getting increasingly worse.

So for those of you currently taking it or have taken it in the past, what was your experience like?

I take 90mg a day have done for about a year and it seems to work for me. Recently started spiraling downward because of things going on in my life so we’ll see if it still does what it’s supposed to do. I will say it’s one of the few meds I’ve taken without side effects
Thanks for this!

I started Cymbalta about 9 months ago and have had good results. I was on zoloft for years and it wasn't as effective as before. One major difference I've found is that when confronted with a stressful situation, I don't get as agitated or anxious as before.
I hope it works for you.

The Skeezyks is no longer on med's. But I was on Cymbalta (& subsequently its generic equivalent) for... oh... a couple of years maybe (memory fails me...) It was the best antidepressant I ever took... & virtually no side effects even though I was on the maximum recommended dosage. I went off it when I changed health insurance plans & the out-of-pocket cost rose dramatically.
Thanks for this!

Thanks everyone for the replies! Hopefully my experience is as positive as all of yours!
Jim currently on 30mg but my Dr will increase it to 60mg in 3 weeks if it is going well. I've also been told to take these omega 3 vitamins which I started yesterday too. Not sure if they will do anything but it can't hurt I guess.

I have been having pretty bad insomnia for the 4 weeks and getting about 4-5 hours sleep a night so I'm hoping that Cymbalta will fix that. I've only been taking it since Saturday so I haven't noticed anything yet - hopefully I don't end up sleeping for 12+ hours though!

Sunday was the first day in about 3 weeks that I didn't feel like dying so that was a nice change. I doubt it has anything to do with my meds though... Hopefully I will continue feeling ok

Cymbalta worked great for me. I was on 120mgs every day for several years. Make sure you have your liver enzymes tested on a regular basis. I was IP for my eating disorder and they found out that my liver enzymes were above 400, supposed to be less than 60. They cold-turkeyed me off everything that was processed by the liver. That was not a pleasant experience for me or them. I am now on 100mgs Pristiq and feel good.

I have been on it for 6 months. Started with 30 mg, now taking 60 mg for the past 2 months. It was prescribed by my rheumatologist for joint pain. It is definitely helping my depression.

The weirdest thing with the antidepressants-- my biggest problem is my intimacy issues in my relationship with my husband (his problem, too). Every time I've been put on any brand of antidepressant, I have started to feel good and empowered. Then I told my H I wanted a divorce and threw him out. And each time I can't go through with it and take him back.

This medication had no effect on me at all (I was on 60mg, I think). I was prescribed this when the SSRI I had been on (citalopram) caused me to wake up every other hour. It was supposed to help me sleep as well as help with my depression. It did neither of those things. My depression actually got worse again. Ended up switching back to a different SSRI (sertraline) which was much better for me.

I hope it works for you.

It really had been the best one for me so far, but I had to discontinue due to excessive sweating at night. I would wake up absolutely drenched.

hi chic ,
im currently on Cymbalta for depression and anxiety.its working well w me . I was on Paxil before I hated the slide effects of the med . I was more anxious on Paxil instead of Cymbalta and Vistrail together. my psychiatrist had to taper me down on Paxil and switch to Cymbalta and Vistrail. my counselor didn't like how paxil was working on me .she can tell that paxil didn't work for me .I been on Cymbalta and Vistrail for a year now and its working like a champ for me.

Diagnosis: Anxiety , depression and PTSD
meds: Cymbalta 60 mgs at night
Vistrail 2 25 mgs daily for anxiety prn and 50 mgs at night for insomnia with an additional 25 mgs when up past 1:00 in the morning

I have been on Cymbalta (or the generic Duloxetine) at 90 mg for about two months now. After a slow taper up, I have noticed that it is the only med that has actually worked all the way. And what I mean by all the way is, I have been on Buspar (sucked) generic Lexapro (Escitalopram... worked but eh) and then Brintellix (or as it is called now Trintellix) after Escitalopram and Brintellix working for depression but not taking fully away the anxiety and anxious mood swings (I would be fine and then something would set off my anxiety and then that was it) my doc started leaning towards more bipolar with my diagnosis and started me on Duloxetine. I take mine in the morning as it is a little stimulating for me and will keep me awake if I take it after about 6 pm although, you will have to experiment to see which works best for you. I have zero patience when it comes to waiting for meds to work so with this one it was no exception. I did notice an improvement in the first week and then a slow increase thereafter. I also take Focalin XR for ADHD as well as Ativan as needed for sleep.

Cymbalta has helped me immensely--less pain and I generally get up and do more.
