I take Prozac 20mg. I started two months ago. A month ago I switched to taking it every other day (by doc) because she thought it was making me manic.

Has anyone ever heard of taking Prozac or any antidepressant every other day?

It sounds like a weird thing do unless you're being charged by the pill. I'm on 10mg/day. But maybe my insurance doesn't have a problem paying for 30 pills a month, rather than 15 pills per month?

I found an article on a drugs.com that described taking Prozac every other day for PDD so I guess it's common...doubt I need it for PDD though....I'm a guy...

It seems to be working fine this way so all is well.

Actually, are you prescribed a tablet or a capsule? If it's a capsule, it would make more sense to take a whole one every other day, than to try to take half of a capsule, if they dont.

I get capsules. I think you're right. I saw where 10mg pills are available though. I'm going to talk to my doc today later and learn more. I read the half life was 4-6 days (wiki) so it shouldn't make a difference that I take it every other day.
Thanks for this!

I'm glad you're going to ask your pdoc. I'm on a 10mg capsule, so I don't know why he's just going for the 20mgs other than that might be much less expensive than getting the 10mgs everyday. Probably to save money, is what I guess.

I talked to my doc and now I'm to take it every third day, then every fourth day...then quit. I'm being taken off Prozac. She just wanted me to take every other day for a month to start.

I just found out the reason yesterday. She said she doesn't normally do it this way but she wanted me to transition slowly.
Thanks for this!

That sounds to me like a lot of speed bumps when there doesn't need to be any, but hopefully it will work OK.

And that's not a slow taper at all. :-/ Sorry, I get ticked off reading about the weird discontinuation symptoms we suffer because they think they're doing us a favor, when it's anything but. :
Thanks for this!

Yeah... not sure why you're even on it if it made you even the slightest amount manic.

I have a really good doc. She has always helped me get back on my feet. She always answers my questions...I just don't always have them when I'm there.

When I started the every other day routine I had also switched from Latuda to Vraylar...so I think she didn't want to change too much but enough to get me off the Prozac sooner.

I am supposed to take my last dose on Tuesday (4th day) but I think I'm done. I'll have to see how I feel over the next few days. I was given more Vraylar samples in case I start getting depressed which I'll use to supplement my Rx.
