Has anyone else been taking this or am I the only guinea pig.
Not classified as a drug but a medial food.......(beats me, what ever that is) apparently certain psych meds or combinations or duration of treatment can effect blood count numbers. great! just what I wanted another pill to take. and they are expensive little suckers. This is drug company hype

Quote: Deplin® is the first medical food product indicated for the distinct nutritional requirements of persons with low plasma and/or low red blood cell folate with particular emphasis for those individuals who have a major depressive disorder that has not fully responded or may not fully respond to antidepressant therapy.

|

Hi. Yes, I tried it for a month. Unfortunately, it did not help.
Deplin is L-methylfolate. The way my pdoc explained it to me (or at least the way I remember her explanation) is that some individuals do not methylate folate, which is a necessary step for your body to use the folate in your diet. In other words, you may consume enough folate, but your body may not be able to use it properly (hence the low plasma and red blood cell numbers). If this is an incorrect or incomplete description, Larry Hoover would be able to fill in. Good luck if you try it. It is pricey. If it's helpful, perhaps you can petition the manufacturer for patient assistance? rockgal |
