Hi, I have been on Invega sustenance for almost a year. I started off getting injections in my arms. I started getting painful lumps where the injection was. Most of them eventually went away but then I started getting them in my hips. I have one large painful lump that is sitting directly on a muscle. I can barely sit, stand or walk without serious pain.

Has anyone else experienced this and how do you treat it? Nurse and doc seem to have no idea

Hello Als1495: The Skeezyks has no idea about this. But a while back I was put on Lamictal. After a few weeks I developed a rash. I called my pdoc's office & spoke with my pdoc's assistant. She said it was probably nothing & don't worry about it.

The rash kept getting worse so I went to see my GP. He diagnosed it as being Lamictal rash & sent me immediately to be seen by a dermatologist. (As you may be aware, Lamcital rash can morph into a life-threatening condition.) They took me off of the medication immediately!

So, the moral of this story is... don't presume that just because the doctor & nurse you're currently seeing don't know what's going on here that it's not serious. If necessary... see another doctor.
Thanks for this!

Thanks for your response! I was nearly prescribed Lamictal but opted out after I heard about that life-threatening rash. I am seeing a different psychiatrist now so I have put in a call to my case manager to see what she could find our anything from doc.

I have this same problem with the Abilify injection!! The lumps in my arm stay for ages, sometimes past the next monthly injection even! My nurse that gives me the shot says to switch the arm I get the injection in each time. That doesn't stop the bumps from happening but it seems to at least aggravate the situation less. It's so uncomfortable, sorry you have that problem, I feel ya my friend!

Thanks Littlegreyrock. My nurse told me to do the same thing, but that just put painful lumps in more places!

I wish you the best!! I forgot to say, my nurse told me to ice it and take Tylenol! It doesn't help that much in reality, but it does at least do a teensy bit to counteract some of it. Good luck friend!

I've never had anyone mention cellulitis. I get my shots every 30 days, which is on schedule. I will have to do some research on cellulitis

Thanks for your response. Did your nurse or doctor tell you what to do about them? How did you handle them?

I just let them pass with time. I did bring it up to them bc I was worried there was an infection. Sometimes the lumps would feel really hot to the touch. My pdoc seemed not concerned. My GP did not know anything about sustenna so she didn't know what to do

I finally saw my proc yesterday and she didn't know what to do about them either. I will keep trying to massage them and try some heat to relax the muscle.

I am getting the lumps and they are so painful! I'm so worried they won't heal in time for my next injection. What causes these?

I'm sorry, I don't know. I got my injection last week and yet another painful lump. Some have gone away with time, some have not.

S., That is the height of incompetence. Before you even legal a enough to spell Lamictal they tell you if you get a rash stop immediately and call your psychiatrist. Anyone who works with the drugs as should know to tell the patient. It can be life threatening.

Can you Google the lumps. I'm sure others have it. I posted in this thread 2 years ago looks like. Ive been off the shot for 4 years and I have no lumps
But I would get them while on the injection . I suspect it's a reaction to the medication. I know some of them are more granules and not really liquid

I've gotten these lumps from f
emergency meds at the hospital I would look up cellulitis if there that bad and talk to your doctor about it to that's what I got from fighting injections but you can get em if someone is not an expert in giving them also I fought it once so bad cause the lady didn't know what she was doing it touched my bone the needle I had cellulitis the next day hope this helps.
