My bf is worried because I'm soon to be off my meds completely. He wants me to stay on the dose I'm currently on a little bit longer. I am ready to say goodbye to these meds, once and for all. Yes, my OCD is worse, and that's hard, but I haven't had a chance to try the vitamins that I've read about, and that might improve things. My bf keeps saying we'll get them, but he keeps putting it off. However, my mother has offered to lend me the money to buy them online, and I might just do that.
While I understand my bf's concerns, I really need some support in doing this. Everyone seems worried about how it affects them, but no one seems to care how I feel about being on the meds. They take away my sex drive, the strength of my orgasms, they reduce my creativity and passion, and cause my heart to be more jumpy than usual. Plus, on higher dosages, I have monthly breakdowns, where I just feel miserable, and hopeless, and wail, feeling like nothing will ever get better. After I significantly reduced my meds (over time), that stopped! Not a little at a time, but just STOPPED. It happened for months, and after the final month, not at all, and it's been over a year and a half! I just wish people could understand how these meds affect some of us, and why we deserve to try to fight our illnesses without them.

I hope you can go ahead and get off of them. I'd love to quit taking meds but I can't go without a mood stabilizer. I was having a lot of trouble with my sex life when I started lamictal. I'm doing fine now, so at least that side effect is gone. But I have others......good luck, Maven......xoxoxo pat

Good luck getting off them completely. I need my meds but the cumulative side effects really make me wish I didn't. But I do hope you're coming off them with a dr's suprevision.

My comment is that if you would like to decrease or discontinue your meds it is wise to discuss this desire with your doctor. Many medications can cause ill side effects and even be dangerous when stopped suddenly. It's best to go about this with medical direction.

It's nice that you have a Dr. who agrees with the idea that meds can be done away with. I do not plan on being on my meds for life. I think making the right changes in my lifestyle will help along with the therapy. My Dr. supports me - he doesn't like lots of meds either. Good for you for doing what is best for you.

Yes, I'm doing this under the care of my shrink. I've not stopped them suddenly (and I'm still on them). I've been weaning off them for over a year.
