I had good luck with Abilify for a couple of years and then it seemed to quit working. I never had any problems with it. I'm sorry that you are. It's never any fun when our moods are fluctuating. Good luck.

Abilify didn't do anything for me, except maybe it slightly increased anxiety. BUT it helps a lot of people. Good luck with it.

I've seen someone who was very paranoid and started being normal and happy after only being a week on it...

It was the only antipsychotic that didn't make me sleepy...

But I'm med free now
Thanks for this!

I wish I had more success with Abilify. For me, it wasn't an absolutely awful medication, but it didn't help me. I hear it works for many though. I had moderate side effects: restlessness (especially in the legs), a tingly feeling in my head that I can't really describe very well. It was activating, rather than sedating, which probably aggravated my anxiety at times. I can see this benefiting some people who feel very slowed down as a result of their depression.

It was supposed to help me with some of the paranoia I was experiencing and some mixed mood symptoms, but I didn't notice anything drastic. Another AP was added, and then my pdoc decided there was no point of remaining on Abilify, since there was no benefit. I did better off of it when we decided on other medications.

One "pro" I noticed with Abilify: no weight gain.

I hope it works for you. Good luck.

I took generic Abilify with generic Lexapro; for me all it did was cause weight gain which obviously didn't help with depression

I take a whole lot of Abilify (30mgs). I'm not able to tolerate most antipsychotics/neuroleptics this well. On the upside, I take it, I don't have tremor, the "thorazine shuffle," etc. like I did with some other "atypicals," --but--, on the downside, Abilify doesn't cover all the bases, so I'm on a 4 drug cocktail.

One of my former shrinks said that lower dose of Abilify can cause "activation," energy, sometimes nervousness, etc., and that higher doses (like mine) are better for mania, agitation, really bad mood instability. Of course, its a tranquilizer, so at a certain point a high enough dose will just shut your mind down, completely. I think it would take tons Abilify to do that, though, because it works differently than the other drugs.

Anyway, you have other options. Other "atypicals," even carefully selected, carefully dosed "conventional" (older) antipsychotics. Some people really don't need an antipsychotic/tranquilizer, anyway, and would probably be better off without one. That's what I don't get. You see these sad, angry homeless people who clearly need some kind of antipsychotic, but nobody cares, and then all these people with less severe problems are being loaded up on antipsychotics/tranquilizers they don't want, need, and that cause problems and cost a lot of $$$. --end of rant--

I hope things work out well for you.

I've been on Abilfy for a few years now and it has worked really well me. When I first started it I was taking it in the morning, but after the sleep study I had the doctor there recommended I take it at night. That helped even more.

I've been off and on Abilify for 12 years now and it's been mostly good for me. No side effects like weight gain but I do get some restlessness from it.

I just started taking abilify a few days ago, I don't feel as much of a positive effect as I did when I first took zyrexa. I didn't stay on zyprexa because I am nervous about the side effects, but I don't feel much of anything from abilify other than being easily irritated and it is really expensive.

I had similar effects, with the restlessness and tingling. My p-doc said that was akathisia, which is a fairly common side effect of Abilify. Apparently it's more likely to happen with Abilify than other atypical antipsychotics.
