I took it and saw no changes, no benefit but no side effects either.

BuSpar did not help me at all, but my daughter (who has a severe anxiety disorder) has taken it for years and it helps her a lot.
Thanks for this!

I took it for several years & it helped me a lot. Went off my meds several months ago when I was manic & am now back on it along with propranolol.

I have never gave it a chance. Many people call it placebo and that it does not have any effect substantially as a serotonin 5-HT1A receptor partial agonist.

I haven't but I have known many people who have taken it. It seems like all meds. One person claims it's a miracle drug, the next it has no effect, and the next it ruined their life. I just think it depends on the make up of your body. But it does seem to have fewer side effects than some of the other anti anxiety meds out there.

Of course all meds are like this. But some are "more" like this. Many meds help quite a lot of people and people's reactions can be anything from no effect to pretty good to really good to awful. This one is special I feel in that that it helps quite a few number of people. It does seem to help them quite a bit. Other people it simply does not affect. I haven't heard horror stories about Buspar. And most meds are a sliding scale of success, this is like total hit and miss. Quite interesting.

The Bispar didn't work for me at all. My doc kept increasing my dosage and it never helped. I eventually was put on something else.

Buspar caused me to eat 800 calories per meal. My doctor said it made no sense since buspar supposedly makes you lose weight. I had to take myself off it because I couldn't deal with being 236 pounds. I had no withdrawal symptoms, and the weight started dropping like crazy. I'm almost 60 pounds lighter and sometimes struggle with eating 800 calories in a day. I wouldn't recommend going off it without permission though. My doctor was pretty pissed at me. I think he believes me now about it causing weight gain and hunger lol.

I asked my doc about it when I wanted to get off lorazepam. He told me that he had maybe 4 or 5 people it helped over the last many years. But, there was those 4 or 5. I recently have added gabapentin to help with the breakthrough anxiety and the beginnings of neuropathy in my feet. It helps.

I just started taking Buspar today for GAD and social phobia. I've never tried it before. I'll post later as to how it affects me.

It caused significant stomach pains so I had to discontinue it. Therefore, I went off it before knowing if it would help me. Good luck.

Sorry it didn't work out for you. The prescribing psychiatrist said its a "hit or miss" drug. My current psychiatrist doesn't find it to be effective in general, but he does find the occasional patient it just works for, and I am that one. I have read that it is most effective in combination with an SSRI. I got off all anxiety related meds and was only taking PRN ativan.

A few wks ago, it was to the point I was taking it multiple times daily (pDoc was aware) and I felt I needed to switch back to Buspar as it was more long term. I take 10 mg, 3x a day (along with Celexa and Lamictal), and I have only needed to take the ativan like 2-3 times since i've got back on, and just one pill then.

So far, I have noticed only one side effect which is dizziness. It's manageable, though. I want to give it more time, but my anxiety level seems the same after one week. However, I have several things going on simultaneously (mother has been in and out of the hospital, relationships with other family members are strained, etc etc etc).

Ten days in, and here's what I've experienced so far:

* Dizziness and facial numbness that lasts for about two hours after I take a dose.
* No relief from anxiety at all, but I feel like I have a little more energy (not sure if that has anything to do with the drug - it's the only one I'm on).
* Flushing.

Not a "side effect," but I have forgotten to take the morning dose a few times because I'm used to taking meds at night only. I will have to work on that.

Went on it myself a few days ago. I "think" I feel less anxiety, but am not sure. No side effects so far. I like that it is not a benzo.
