The hardest thing to deal with in mental illness is the medication. Prior to February of last year I could not handle the medication, constantly sleeping I could not do what I could on a daily basis. The hardest thing to deal with in mental illness is.... clean, take care of kids and cook. That is what I also do for a living "stay at home mom". My son is wonderful with me. He gives me notifications as I nap through the day,"mom, shower", mom cook, but my daughter 14 my son being 9 is different. The hardest thing to deal with in mental illness is.... she is saddened I don't spend enough time with her.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this, and agree that medication is certainly no fun. How sweet of your son; it sounds like you've got a smart, thoughtful kid.
When you say you couldn't handle the medication prior to February, do you mean you've found something that helps now?
Thanks for this!

Hi, ck, and welcome to Psych Central! I agree that the meds are the worst thing about mental illness. I blame them for causing my memory problems that led me to have to stop working.
Thanks for this!

Psych meds suck, I've had tons of adverse reactions to them. Especially Geodon, I refuse to take that medicine because it caused my eyes to roll back. The doctor just put me on Cogentin but that didn't help so I got a new doctor who immediately pulled me off of it and said that I was having an allergic reaction. Later I found out it was actually a EPS symptom and either way I should have been off that medication as soon as it happened. I have trouble with my memory now too, I can't remember conversations most of the time. I'm having constant involuntary jerking of my body too, possibly TD but I need the doctor to check it out when I go see him in a few weeks to know for sure. I hate taking medications but I know I need them so I won't go off of them. I used to always go off my medications for a few months at a time when I was first diagnosed but I learned the hard way that I need them.

hi. you might need a different doctor. i know this isn't a popular opinion, but ive actually had better success with genuinely caring family doctors than with most psychiatrists. family doctors keep an eye on one's overall health, and they're good about keeping the doses of more potentially toxic drugs, such as the tranquilizers/antipsychotics, as low as possible.

i hope you can get safe, effective help for your problems and move forward in life.

Let me rephrase that the deconate, makes me sleep like cant get out of bedand possibly gave me diabieties type ll. Makes me pee in my undies every time I cough. The med is considered highly likely to lose use of your liver but it keeps me out of the hospital and off petitions.
