I have taken every ssri/snri. I eat healthier than anyone I know, I exercise. I sometimes think of microdosing LSD everyday, because it gave me such a feeling of clarity like I knew what to do and how to live.
I'm currently taking prozac 80 Celexa 20 lamictal 200. This is not doctors orders I just can't get anything to work. Celexa makes me tired and foggy. Prozac anxious. Occasionally I'll have good moments where I feel positive and hypomanic briefly. I'm considering switching the celexa to cymbalta I just fear for my liver so dearly and read bad things. Or testosterone peaked my interest Sorry for the rambling, I am very desperate. I'm 27 attractive and have had a girl we've always liked each other. For years she's moved through guys and by some miracle I still have a chance. For many years I've tried to medicate so I can be with her and have failed. I dont understand. /endrant im not looking for sympathy just answers. Perhaps I just need to give the Prozac more time all will be well. I feel this is a silly thread now but I spent so long I'll post it ha |

If you aren't following drs orders it's going to be difficult to find anything that works. Does your pdoc know that you aren't following his/her recommendations? How is he or she supposed to help you find something that works?

What other medications have you tried and have you given them enough time to really work for you? Are you working with a pdoc/therapist? It can take time for psych meds to kick in ~ they're not an instant fix and many do come with side effects...but they usually only last a short while until your metabolism adjusts. It's hard trying to be patient but it's the only way and it's worth it in the end run.
BTW, don't mix and match medications on your own as you may not be aware of the potential interactions which can sometimes be severe.

First, I would make sure to work with a pdoc. Don't go it alone. Second, I would make sure to give the meds enough time to work. It can take 8 weeks or more for a med to start working. And by "start working," I don't mean that your symptoms will completely disappear--it means that you will start to see a reduction in symptoms. Most people do not fully recover from an episode of depression, for example, for 18 months to 3 years, and that is while they are on an antidepressant and in therapy. Third, I would see a therapist--weekly at least. Many of them will work on a sliding scale or refer you to someone else if their fee is too high. BTW, it's great that you are eating healthy and exercising. Keep it up, and make sure you are sleeping 7-9 hours per night as well. It's also great that you have a girlfriend you feel close to and want to stay with. Hang in there.

P.s. As someone else said, the side effects tend to disappear with time.

There are about a dozen classes of AD's (including SSRI/SNRI's) so there are a lot of options to try. How about an add-on like Abilify or Rexulti?

Low-dose Abilify has helped augment my Zoloft for depression and anxiety.

Have you tried wellbutrin? It works different than the ssri's

I've tried those except for abilify, what does it feel like? I will certainly give a try perhaps Monday.

Only at a low dosage. At higher dosages it acts more like an AP for which it is.

Avoid MAOI’s if you are an especially anxious person or prone to insomnia. I had a horrific experience with them and they had bad psychological effects on me (anger, manic-like moods at night, irritability) as well as severe insomnia for 9 months. (I was on EMSAM for 18 months altogether).
My pdoc - who did not prescribe the MAOI - helped me come off of it and he said that MAOI’s boost your levels of norepinephrine like crazy, almost like amphetamines |
