I've never taken lunesta but I take ambien every night and it still works. I have insurance but it only costs me a $1 something so it must be cheap.

Ambien didn't make me sleep, but my experiences to the side, it has a very short halflife (2 hours according to benzo.org.uk : Benzodiazepine Equivalence Table ) which means it helps you fall asleep but not stay asleep.
Temazepam really made me sleep, but the night would turn into one continuous nightmare. I have a lot of nightmares anyway (I have PTSD) but without meds I wake from them. With temazepam, I wouldn't.

It's generally advised not to take benzos for sleep every night, so as not to build up a tolerance, and if you do take them every night, not for longer than about 2 weeks.

I would try Ambien first. If it doesn't work you have other options. Restoril is a benzodiazepine and because it's habituating/addictive should only be used as needed for no longer than 4-6 weeks. Many doctors will no longer prescribe benzos and are weaning long term users off them because they can cause mental and physical effects such as depression, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and memory loss.

Half life is 2-3 hours.

I took temazepam for about a year it worked until it didn't. I prefer a hefty dosage of clonazepam for sleep.

I have taken temazepam nightly for most
Of the last 35 years, I am currently taking 45 mg anytime it stops working I take Dalmane( flurazepam) for about 2 weeks and then switch back.so tolerance yes it happens but is very easy to reset your body.
Thanks for this!

I would be cautious with Ambien .. I had a horrible experience! I fell asleep then woke up in the hospital strapped down and I don't remember anything after falling asleep but apparently I threw up all over the place then passed back out. My grandma called the ambulance to come get me .. they thought I was (trigger) trying to attempt suicide again (trigger). But I wasn't, I was just trying to get some sleep since I have insomnia. I had only taken it twice when this happened and I never took it again, nor will I ever. I'm very hesitant about taking sleeping pills now.
