Just read a fascinating article in the Science News weekly magazine, it had so much to say about all the benefits, even pdoc from Columbia University uses it for depression.
But the research from the Soviet (mostly where it grows) revealed many good things such as, improved physical stamina and alertness, helps those with diabetes, hypertension, depression, shifts in mood, and fatigue symptoms.
I don't know, it sounds waaaaaay to good to be true, has anyone used it? How would one know if they are really getting the real thing when purchasing? I saw it referred to, Rhodiola (rosea).
Any info would be appreciated.

Yes, it is great. I have been using it for a week since I quit Zoloft. Try it for yourself. I wish I would have known about it before i started Zoloft.

It is a miracle herb.

50guy, where do you buy your Rhodiola? Is it at health food stores? Pharmacy?

Rhodiola is a fairly powerful herb. I've heard some enthusiastic testimonials to its benefits. Unfortunately, it gave me near total insomnia, although it had been recommended to me by a fellow PTSDer because it had normalized his own sleep.

I bought Solgar brand, which is packaged with a good variety of antioxidants. I felt a boost, right away. But as I say, I couldn't sleep.

Here's a detailed review article: http://content.herbalgram.org/iherb/...iew.asp?a=2333

I read the article too. Very interesting. Makes me want to try it. Here is the link to the article:

Yes, interesting article. I'm a tad suprised to hear that they're growing it commercially in Alberta. According to what I learned maybe five years ago, it grows wild in the sub-Arctic regions of North America, and can be locally quite abundant. I was actually planning a harvesting trip with a fellow Canadian, when I suffered a workplace accident, and had to call off the plan.

I'm a little sad to keep hearing about how the stuff helps with sleep, when I have a paradoxical response.

Larry, one thing I read in one of the articles was that at low doses, the Rhodiola could have a stimulating effect but as the dose was increased, there was more of a sedating effect. Maybe you were taking too low a dose and never found that "sweet spot" for you.

I've been using it for over a week now and it is great.

100mg. at breakfast and 200mg at lunch. I agge that it would be a problem sleeping at night if I took any more.

The stuff gives me a blast of energy and I don't have anxiety
or worry anymore.

Just bought a bottle of it at GNC, I plan on trying it tomorrow morning.
I can't seem to find any info if it will effect my blood pressure or if it interacts with my meds, which are:

Aceon 4mg (for blood pressure/ACE inhibitor)
Cytomel 5mcg one twice daily (for hypothroidism)
Synthroid 75mcg
Lamictal 150mg per day

Please, if you or anyone knows if taking Rhodiola 340mg per capsule can interact, let me know.
I'd hate to deprive myself of possible good outcome by not using Rhodiola due to unecessary fear of what it may do with my daily meds.
When I see my GP in a couple of weeks I'll bring it in for them to read, but till then, if I can learn of something sooner I'd be happy.
Thanks in advance,
Roe

I don't know that Rhodiola has been sufficiently studied to determine metabolic interactions. From a functional perspective, Rhodiola might have an additive effect with the blood pressure med.....i.e., you may find you require less of it, down the road. If you have a blood pressure monitor, you could probably put yourself at ease quite quickly.

Best,

Took my first Rhodiola capsule, sadly I must say, I do not feel anything. Rhodiola, herbal sounds like a "miracle drug" ??
Is it a thing that one has to take for awhile to feel any change?
Maybe there are different dosages that will work?
I took one as bottle directs, one capsule consists of 340mg rhodiola root extract (3% Rosavins = 10.2mg)
I hope something kicks in, I took it about 2 hours ago.
Thanks everyone, who has replied to this post.
Larry, thanks for technical info. your help is always appreciated.

I just looked this up and it said that it should be taken early in the day because it can interfere with sleep. What time of the day where you taking it?

Thanks, but I took it in the evening, at first, then switched to the morning. It was four years ago, so I'm not absolutely certain of the details, but I'm sure I gave it every chance to work for me. It was a positive treatment for me, except for the insomnia thing.

I'm disappointed, I had hoped it would do something for me, but it's not like anything at all. Rhodiola, herbal sounds like a "miracle drug" ??
Do you think it's something that has to buildup in the system before one notices any of the "miracle drug" effects?
I was so excited about this stuff when I read the article in Science News magazine, I thought, "yes", this is the answer to my prayers . . . was too good to be true. Rhodiola, herbal sounds like a "miracle drug" ??
Oh well, like they say, some stuff works for some and not for others, I guess I'm one of the "others". Rhodiola, herbal sounds like a "miracle drug" ??
Thanks in advance for any additional info.
