Hi Everyone,

My doctor prescribed Effexor XR (150 mg, once a day) for anxiety and OCD. While it does work pretty well for anxiety it is not working that great for the OCD. The OCD, of course. causes more anxiety then.

My question is Is there anything that is good for OCD that I can mention to pdoc next month that may work in combination with the Effexor. I just need something better.

Thanks for any help. Have a great day everyone.

I find there is nothing for me to use to control just the OCD. I have to control my anxiety which in turns helps with the OCD. I have scripts for ativan, xanax and klonopin. I of course don't use them all at once ( although I wouldn't have to worry about the anxiety, lol) I would think that you would need something that would work on the spot, When I start feeling wound, the OCD gets worse.the Effexor XR never worked for me. Hope this helps it kind of sounds like I am rambling. -Jen

Hey Pam,

I find that confusing, I have and excellent doctor, and he explained that the medications that I would have to take for OCD are in a different class than Effexors. He explained it in depth, and I'm sorry that I cannot remember enough of it to repeat it.

According to him Effexor will help with depression and anxiety, but an entirely different drug would be needed for ocd.

Hi and thank you both for your replies.

The Effexor XR alone really doesn't do the trick for my OCD. I've tried talking to my doc about it but he prescribed Ativan for panic instead of something for the OCD. I haven't had a panic attack in quite a while (knock on wood Effexor XR and OCD ) and really just want something to help control unwanted and repetitive thoughts.

I have an appointment next month so I will have to talk to him again about it. Thanks again, Pam
