My son is the one that has tourettes. He is now on seroquel.He was just on geodon for a short time.Before that he was on risperdal. The risperdal seemed to work pretty well. But then he put on 25pounds.He is only 7.He is pretty tall so he can hide it well.He is taking 100mg. in the pm. and by tomorrow he will be taking 100mg. in the am to.His ticcing has gotten a little better but at school he is still having a hard time.{voal and motor} Any thoughts on this med. for children?

Must be tough to see your child on medicine, no? I don't know of any children on that medicine but I know adults it helps. Yes, they are using the neuroleptics for symptoms of Tourette's now. I've heard by some that risperdal is very good for it. With any drug that causes weight gain usually the person has to be made very aware of what he is eating and try to eat the right foods in the right amounts with exercise. I would think if the seroquil doesn't work out then going back to the risperdal and being real conscious of eating habits and exercise would help a lot. Maybe if you and him work on it together as a team (like both of you exercise together and plan healtier meals) it might help.
