My Dr. prescribed Prozac for my anxiety...any thoughts?

I have been taking Prozac for at least four years. I take it in combination with other psych meds. I have both depression and anxiety. It's been helpful for me, and I haven't experienced any bad side effetcs.
Prozac is indicted for major depression. It is also indicated for obsessive compulsive disorder and panic disorder which are both anxiety disorders. So it sounds like your doctor picked an appropriate medication. The one thing Prozac isn't is fast acting. It won't help in the middle of a panic attack for example. There are other meds out there like Ativan, Klonopin, Xanax, and Valium that are commonly used for this. |

Prozac work for me but I also take seroquel with it with works great !!

Prozac did not work for me. It caused some sexual problems and did not help with my depression or anxiety.

Prozac is usually not the best choice for treating anxiety. It is for depression. Is it possible your pdoc thinks if you get your depression under control that your anxiety will go away? It's always possible.
There are some other good AD's though that work great for depression AND anxiety. Best, Okie
