I've had anxiety for a number of years but didn't realize and it wasn't until recently that I started finding ways to combat it.
I heard that Omega-3 was good for anxiety and moods and I started taking 3g a day, which is what the doctor and the bottle said. The first week, I noticed a considerable improvement in my mood. The second week, I found that my moods began to swing between anxiety, depression and calm. The more I got anxious, the worse my anxiety became, and very fast. It was like nothing I have ever felt before and I am pretty sure that it was the Omega-3 since I hadn't changed anything about my life in the last few weeks. I have found a splattering of posts on the net saying that this was possible but not that often. Has anyone found that Omega-3 gave them more anxiety after time? |

Hey...
There have been a couple of posts here on the forums about taking Omega-3 for depression, but (as far as I know), nothing about taking it for anxiety. Posts are... HERE and HERE As for your specific question... I did some websearching, and it seems quite common for people to use/suggest Omega-3 to treat anxiety, but I haven't found anything that states that Omega-3 can make anxiety WORSE. But there is always the chance of adverse effects, where something does the exact opposite of what people intend/think it's going to do. So maybe that's what is happening in your case? Hope someone else can provide you with a better answer. Welcome to PC ![]()

I have been taking Omega-3s for some time...I have not noticed an increase in anxiety. But, everybody is different. For me, I have not really noticed any positive benefits either....I just hope they are doing some good for my heart and brain.

Hi, RayKinsella, welcome to PsychCentral. You need to have the correct balance of Omega 3's fats and 6's acids; if you have more of one than the other all kinds of bad things can happen. Sounds like you should back off on just taking Omega 3's; eat more fish or other foods with the Omega 3's but which are "natural" food. It can be dangerous mucking around with body chemistry, taking random pills like that on hearsay.
