Hi, my doctor prescribed Prozac - due to my depression. I just survived a bad break up and had a nervous break down and stopped eating or sleeping. I have the following ater effects as soon as I started taking it (1 pill every day, already for 6 days): my eye sight gets blurry sometimes, I still can't eat - I get physically very hungry but can't make myself eat at all, I wake up in the middle of the night and stay awake for hours, but the nastiest - is the burning sensation, it strats in my back/shoulder blades, and goes down to my arms and hands, and it my chest and throat. Its like a never ending "fever", I have a feelign that I am "shaking" inside. Are those usual side effects? Will they go away after a while? Or shall I stop taking Prozac?

thank you!

I have never heard some of those side-effects being described for Prozac but I'm sure if you look it up somewhere (wikipedia perhaps, though it's not entirely correct, or on the Drugs section of this web site) you might find some answers.

I think you should phone your psychiatrist or general practitioner and see if you can get an appointment. If not, leave a voice mail that you are having unpleasant side-effects and wish to get some advice about what steps you can take.

The shaking feeling could very well be attributed to low blood sugar levels due to not eating enough. I get very shaky feeling if I do not eat enough. Prozac will not really make you eat its just supposed to help the depression. If the eating is directly related to your depression then as the depression lifts the eating should get better. If it doesn't than the eating could be a seperate issue. The questionable thing is the burning sensation which should definatly be brought up to you doctor.
