There are actually alot more anti-depressant choices than just those two.

The "best" is dependant on which helps you. Not all medications help everyone. For example, prozac might do nothing for you, but cymbalta might help you tremendously. It takes time to figure out which medication is best for you.

It depends on the person, if you aren't happy with how your medicene is working for you then you should defineatley explore this issue with your pdoc. I hope you find something that works out for you.

Myself, being on anti-depressants for over 4 years now, have come to a couple conclusions:

1. Everyone is different. My best friend LOVED celexa. It did nothing for me & I hated it.

2. After a while, it seems the body sort of gets used to it, so you have to switch. I was on Effexor XR for the longest time & began to feel as if it wasn't working anymore. I consulted my doc & he switched me to Cymbalta (60 mg/day). I am still on Cymbalta and love it.

Now, I am not a doctor, but these are my own personal opinions.

Yeah...personally I'd swear by Cymbalta but have heard that some people can't tolerate the side effects and hated the drug. I've never gotten any side effects from Cymbalta.

Best of luck to you, though!

I'm with all the previous posters on this one. Everyone reacts differently to different meds so best for me may not be best for you.

However I'll share what I have experienced..

I am currently taking Prozac. I have been on it for several years now and have had no major side effects. My dose is 40mg. I can't say that it has had any profound effects but I also haven't had any problems either.

I took Cymbalta for a short time but discontinued because it caused my blood pressure to go up. Right now I am taking Effexor XR which is part of the same family as Cymbalta. Effexor has been a life saver for me.

Celexa just pooped out on me it has always been a mild antidepressant but now it doesnt seem to be doing anything. I was on a trial for DVS (metabolite of effexor) and it did wonders for me but 4 months into the trial I developed an allergy including hives and had to stop I really want to try Cymbalta but I am afraid of the side efffects I am very sensitive to drugs effexor made my blood pressure go up (systolic?) they even made me lay down for fifteen minutes before measuring my B/P during the trial......I want the extra motivation that this kind of medicine gives me....Q
