Anyone? Info?, what it's been like for you, what helped and what didn't?

I know that all meds work for everyone differently, but i'm still worried about this whole medication switch considering I don't see my phychiarist until next Monday.

Prozac did zippo for me at 20 and 40 mg. At 60, it caused hallucinations, both aural and visual. That was the end of Prozac. It never had an effect on my mood.

I've been on Effexor for 5 years and love it. For the first 2 or 3 weeks, it completely wired me -- very hyperactive, etc. Once that went away, I haven't had any more side effects in all this time. I don't remember what dose I started on, 75 mg I think. Eventually I got to where I am now, 375 mg (the max). Like anything else you take for a long time, I got habituated to it and had to add a tricyclic (desipramine, aka Norpramin) to give the Effexor a kick in the butt. That happened in January of this year and I have been doing pretty good most of the time.

Of course, other people's experiences could be completely different! But those are mine.

Prozac is helping me right now. I'm taking 20 mg. a day. The side effects were minimal and my moods are better, though I'm physically ill right now Prozac VS Effexor And having dental surgery AGAIN tomorrow..

The worst side effect I had with the Prozac and every now and then one will slip in is the nightmares. I have noticed some weight loss, but I don't think it's much, and it doesn't bother me as I am slightly overweight anyway.

I wish you luck!

Take Care.

I take both Effexor and Prozac. I just got my Effexor level bumped up last time I saw my pdoc and I see him again tomorrow so we will see what he says. I liked the Prozac because when I first started to take it it took my munchies away. I lost about 15 pounds because I wasn't eating but when that side effect wore off betsy bar the door I was hungry.

Thanks guys for your imput.

I am not sure what I want to be on out of the two, i'm leaning more towards the SSRI because i've been on Zoloft and was on it for 8 years before it quit working. I've also been on Celexa after Zoloft and had a terrible time even after the inital 6 weeks nothing but feeling crappy. So with the OK from my psychiarist (and i'm repeating myself from my other thread) I went off meds all together to see what I was like without having meds in my system since i'm been on meds for 8 yrs, but I crashed after 3 days and went on Remeron

I wouldn't mind loosing a couple of pounds, even though right now my weights isn't really that bad, but i'm self consious more and that sucks.... I lost my train of thought now cause I just had a phone call Prozac VS Effexor

Sundance,
I enjoyed being on the Prozac. I started off on 20 and unfortunately it did not do much..however once I was moved up to 40 it worked beautifully!
The only side effects that I had were extreme dry mouth (I had to always carry a bottle of water). I often had nightmares...and my sexual drive increased. Which was odd because I always thought it would decrease it.
I really enjoyed Prozac and out of all the meds I was on it had the least amount of side effects. I would highly recommend it.

Hey Jess,

I don't like the sexual side effects thought, I can handle dry mouth even though I know that everyone is different. I've had a good relationship with SSRI's I did with Zoloft for 8 years. So why wouldn't Prozac work?

I'll be going to see my Pdoc Monday for my session so i'm sure we'll be dicussing it for all of the 45mins that i'm in talking to her.

I just wish this discourged feelings will let up.

Hey at least I haven't had thoughts of hoplesness or suicide. Prozac VS Effexor even though I kinda have felt hopelessness, but not to that degree, more discouragement then anything and it sucks.
